Clifford intake is on

Post by Brian Taylor »

I finally got around to putting on my Clifford intake for my 300 engine. I will take pics when I finish the install. I have to reroute the stock accelerator cable and work out the exhaust sytem.
Can not wait for a drive.

please do, I want to replicate your set up. I'd get that one for sale in the listings but it's too far of a drive

the stock cable is too short.

I thought it would be too short but with the carb I have I just need to make an "S" shape and bracket to keep smooth bends. Later if I get a chance I will try and get a linkage type from a newer model and use it.
I will put a pic in my profile later today showing the cable set up.
I did forget to get on important thing though, an air cleaner!

Thanks Brian - please keep us posted. I have the Clifford setup all in boxes and (intake, headers, 390cfm holley) and have been collecting related parts, re-routing existing systems in prep for the job.

Feels like a lot to chew off so i bet there may be a lot of folks with questions. Pictures would be great and thanks again for letting everybody know how you're doing!

Now we just need to find you a proper carb to replace that $5 swap meet special you found! Congrats on the progress and I can't wait to hear it run again.

I added pics to my album of the clifford and exhaust and the routing of the stock accelerator cable. I worried the cable would be stiff but it moves very freely. The only thing left now is to hook up a hot air tube for the choke or find an electric and swap it out(preferred).

It has a little bit more grunt off the line and I have been still setting up the carb. It has a pair of 50 jets in it and seems a good size for my set up.
It is a bit more impressive with the hood open than with the stock 1bbl set up.
If anyone is in need of a stock intake exhaust and carb for a 240/300 let me know.

After seeing it in person, I can say it really enhances the engine bay. I especially like the custom exhaust mod. Truely inventful! Good job buddy.

looks good

you were able to use the stock cable because the carb is in the normal position where the carb on my wifes is sideways-must be the adaptor.

Image

one issue i see is no heat to the intake, this will cause icing of the carb if you drive it in colder temps.

Being in Texas the colder days are like your hot ones..
I think that will not be the issue with the split cast exhaust rather than headers.

Brian,
have a friend here locally that has this setup in a 54 F100 with a T-5, it flys and get 23-25 mpg on the highway with stock 3:92 gears.

was not really that cold when it happened 40* outside. got about 25 miles @ 65-70 mph then seemed like it ran out of gas. the whole intake was covered in a thin layer of ice up to about 1" way from the head
melted off quick when i shut it off and the heatsink started.

had no problem after i put copper tubes in the heater hoses and clamped them to the bottom of the intake.now it starts up real good in below 0 temps when its plugged in as the intake and base of carb is heated.
