auto transmission
is there an automatic transmission that will bolt up directly to a 292? after seeing some of the trucks at the F100 show in TN this weekend I am thinking about an auto trans conversion.

Cruise o matics and Ford O matics will. After all I just went through with my MX in the 67, you couldn't pay me to put on in a truck. I would convert over to a c-4 or AOD. I'm sure there's an adapter for one.
So good lookin' that I've attracted an international stalker.

I'm assuming you are talking about a truck. The automatic bells for a Y-Block in a truck are very hard to find and usually pretty expensive when you find one. There are adapters available for the C4 and the AOD, but they are in the $1000 price range if memory serves.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Happy Bidding, lol.
Mummert has the C-4 setup, not cheap but less than the AOD conversion which is about $300 more. For the price difference in the long run I personally would go with the AOD, the OD wouldn't take that long to save the $300 in gas.

i gave one of those y auto trans and bell to a friend who deals in scrap.i think its still in his yard.the trans is a borg-warner looks like the ones in the evilbay links.
since i have no use for auto trans i generally get rid of them cheap or give them away for scrap.

That is certainly a factor. You can rebuild 2 302s for what is costs to do a Y block.fire truck wrote:I could have bought an adapter AND a c4 for less than the cost of the parts to rebuild a COM....

auto transmission
my 3 speed is fine the only problem I have with it is my left knee gives me fits when I am in traffic and have to use the clutch a good bit. i was just thinking that an auto would work great if it would bolt up. I have a strong 292 that doesnt have many miles since the rebuild.

I am one of the last people who would debate the point - I have 2 Ys here. I was just stating a fact.fire truck wrote:NOT the same dude! A Y-block is really cool!
