Collector's swap meet or get together?

Post by Oldman »

I have posted several questions on this forum and my wife says I am going crazy over my truck. I bought it six years ago from the county roads dept. in Nebraska. It is a 1966 F-250 4x4 high that is stock except for the bed of the truck which was rusted out and they (the county) put in a steel floor, but the remainder of the bed is original. This fall I pulled it out of my garaage and sent it down to a local mechanic who worked on it and it is running great. I am now fixated on getting it cleaned up, fixing the steering wheel (an earlier post) and changing the axel ratios (another ealier post). Are there local or close to local groups of guys with similar trucks?/swap meet? I need advice, as I am going crazy on what I should be spending my money on fixing this truck. I thought of selling it and buying a F-100. I want to keep it as stock as possible. This is for my benefit, not anyone else's. I am not doing this work to sell it but to enjoy having an old truck. Anyone have any advice and/or information about clubs/groups, etc somewhere close to Iowa?

on the home page scoll down to the midwest region. There are quite a few members there. Just calm down you have had your truck for six years now no reason to get in a hurry and do something you will regret later. All the advise you need is right here on this site. But sometimes it takes a while to get an answer. You really need to sit down and decide what you want to do with your truck then make a plan on what order to do things.Believe me doing things in the proper order saves headachs later.

Welcome to the Slicks

Uncle Skip has a plan on restoring a truck, I'm not sure where it is but one of the guys here will tell us... LOL
It tells how to decide what you want your truck to be, how to list the tasks and get them in the proper order to accomplish your idea of what your truck will be.

With that said, many here have had the, "I was going to replace the cigarette lighter and wound up with a frame off restoration"

Keep a notebook of the plans, copy the ideas you can use from here (and anywhere else you find) to the notebook. Keep your eye on the process and the end result will be a truck that you will be happy driving.

Also, look at the photos of the trucks on this site. there is everything from farm trucks to trailer queens to NASCAR trucks here. lots of ideas to steal... I mean to think about using on your truck LOL

Hang in there and there are a bunch of guys and gals that will help you with everything you plan to do and what to avoid. As they have probably found several ways not to do something. Don't get discouraged, when you are down just log onto Slicks Anonymous and we will be here.

Hi, my name is casey and I'm a slickaholic...

P.S. All of our wives think we are crazy.

The photo albums/galleries are a good place to start. You can also search this site for answers to just about any slick-related question. Good luck on the restoration...and WELCOME!
