Where's the Jack located?

When I bought my 65 it did not have a jack with it. That plus a question from a friend got me to thinking. Where was the jack stored in these trucks?

Glad to hear your alright. I've been told they were stored under the seat. I just put mine on the inner fender like the later models. [img][albumimg]7577[/albumimg][/img]

The jack from my truck was under the seat (passenger's side) with the lug wrench and jack handle placed into and through the back seat springs. I'm not sure if that is how the factory intended it to be but judging on the originality of my "new" 65 I would guess that's how it was done. I'll try an post pictures of this soon in my Picassa folder and share it with all of you.

I've been wondering about this question for awhile myself.

Jim, Is that jack in your picture correct for what year slick; 65/66?

I like what you did; seems straight-forward and simple.

This is one of those curiosity things for me; it seems that Ford has always been specific and consistent (well that's where we seem to get opinions flying) about everything, even options.

Maybe factorystock can shed some light on this topic

I do not know where it was BUT Can say one thing I do know on the earlier trucks a Jack was option and was in the accessory books and the picture it always showed was a hyd. bottle jack,, we have had several low mileage un-molested trucks and not a single one had a jack in it,,, alwasy some jack from the auto parts store

I thought they came with that crappy screw jack with the long handle-- that always fell over in the mud.

Mine looks like Johnny Canuck's (handle and all)(was in bed of truck when I bought it), except mine has a square 'U' metal piece on the top of the jack--had a touch up welding job on the 'U', so I don't know if that is original or not. I've always heard they were stored under the hood on the passenger side.

I think they were all just thrown under the seat,not good if you have a roll over accident. I think around 67 they put them on the inner fender under the hood. Not to change the subject,Michelle,have you had a chance to find out where the engine knock was coming from in you Ranger ?

Yes, I have, the knock is a wrist pin. I plan on pulling the engine next month and dealing with it.

I am thinking that I am going to get the tie down strap off a 67 up and use it to secure the jack on the 65. There is not room under the seat of the Ranger to store a jack, the long handle and the lug wrench. I hope we can geet some more in put on this as no seems to know for sure.

That's what I remember the jack & mounting looking like on our 74 & 77...

Yep. That's the set that's in my 65. I'm not sure if it's the one that came from the factory, but then again who's to say it isn't.

The handle in my red truck looks just like JCs. I found a 70 model the other day with the jack,handle, lug wrench and all mounting hardware at the junkyard. Scored it for the green truck. The handle in a 70 was one piece straight rod with a crank handle on one end mounting under the seat on the floor beside the lug wrench. As far as I know Lastwagon, that was one of the correct jacks for a 65-6. I think some hydraulic jacks were options...jim P.S. Looks like I need to clean my engine compartment.

that setup is also the one with my 64. I've been meaning to ask you guys where it goes. apparently i'm not the only one. but on the fenderwell sounds likely.

We have several original owners in this club. Ray had his '64 at Slickstock... it seems to me those guys said it was just tossed under the seat at the factory

I imagine it was, but in the shortboxes I doubt the handle would fit in there. I wish I had a dollar for every cuss word I have used on those jacks.

HERES A idea

for the Jack Handle find the 73-79 series trucks, get the clips off the core support that holds the handle to the core support and install on the slick core support,,, also if you look some of the late models like 99-03 trucks have a bracket under the seat that holds the Jack in place

A jack was considered a tool and was not standard equipment during these years. They were available as an extra cost accessory item. It wasn't until around '67-'68 that jacks were standard equipment and came securely placed on inner fender under hood.

Thanks for the clarification in the jack. Back in the day I owned a 64 that I bought when it was three years old and I know it did not have a jack. I had thought that perhaps the PO had removed it and never put it back. I was really concerned as to where the jack would have been stored in the Ranger models.
