Need sheet metal install advise
Got a few questions. When Installing my floor pans in my 63, I do want to leave the cab on the frame so the cab mounts line up. So I could lay the pan on the floor, bolt it up and mark it for the cut right? Now, looking at the old step, kick plates, and rockers I noticed dimples of spot welding. To remove these, should I drill out the spot welds and use my small cut off for the welds at the floor and kick plate? And when installing these pieces, should I drill some weld holes in the step plate to attach the rockers? And of course clean up the welds. I hope I dont confuse anyone, but for those that have already done this, you'll probably know what I'm talking about. I'm also installing new hinge pillars. Also, I bought some new front cab supports, because I dont have any. I dont know how they go in. Does anyone have pics of these. My cab mounts are in great shape. Thanks in advance. Also after I install the floor pans, I will be removing the cab and placing on a dolly to finish

"When Installing my floor pans in my 63, I do want to leave the cab on the frame so the cab mounts line up."
Yes.
"To remove these, should I drill out the spot welds and use my small cut off for the welds at the floor and kick plate?"
Yes.
Finally, cut out the bad section of the floor, lay your new floor pans in and mark the cutout on the back side of the new pan with magic markers.
Add about 1/4" or more to the mark and pre-trim the new pan.
Set the new one in place and start spot welding it in place. Trim as you go with your cutoff wheel.
Take your time, spread out all your spot welds, and finally fill in all the weld seams. You won't be sorry.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

I would suggest to buy a spot weld drill bit instead of using a standard drill bit. It makes the finish work a whole bunch easier. They aren't that expensive versus welding up a bunch of holes.

I replaced both of my floor pans and both front cab mounts in my '64. I did it half on the frame and half off. Started with the pans first on the frame but eventually had to take the cab off to have better access for welding top and bottom.
A good set of pans are indented properly and make it easy to put back in. They follow the contour of the floor and transmission tunnel area so it's not that difficult.
Same goes for the cab mounts. Easy to see where the flanges weld to the bottom of the floor as well as the sides. Take pics for reference before you start and you can look back on them if you need to.

Thanks everyone for the great info, My pans seem to fit in nice and right in the grooves. My cab floor supports are completly gone, but I checked another cab today and seen where and how they go in. The spot weld bits sound good, just cant seem to remember or have'nt ever seen one, but will check it out. Anything to make the job go better and look better.
