Need Help Verifying a Camper ...?

Post by 64crew4x4 »

Hello, everyone....

I am looking to buy a 1963 F350 Cabover Frame mounted Camper...

Truck has 68,000 original miles on the Chassis.....:)

Camper is supposed to be in good shape with minimum water rot...?

Lady who owns it says they bought it from the Original Owner up in Alaska back in the Early 70's with 41k on it.....

My Question for all you guys who might know is this...

1.) did Chinook or Caveman or Coleman make a chassis Mounted 14-16 ft Camper in 63.....?

2.) If someone did, are there any pics anywhere...? or history...?

I have been trying to gleen info on the net and have hit a wall....
The Lady Who owns it says that she thought it is a Chinook Camper...

Any help is appreciated.....I'll get pics of it when I am over looking at it and Buying it....

Truck is 8 hrs away from me......over 4 mountain passes...It is going to sit where it is till spring..... Bonus is it runs still .....:)
Needs brake Work....

Maybe I'll get to drive it home when the Time Comes....??

Thanks in advance...
John in Oregon.

I have a 66 F350 with 15 ft El dorado made by honorbilt out of Lakeview Ca. As for slight water damage, check for weak spots all along all outside walls and look closely in all storage spaces. after my own experiance and doing a lot of research on the web about restoreing old campers and trailers They all leak and have water damage. Hope yours is the exception.

Ok, So I chatted with the Gal again today.....

Evidently the Original Owner Put the Chinook Camper onto the 63 Chassis himself....?

She thinks it is at least 16 ft.....? I don't have any pics to show of it yet....

This has an Over the cab sleeping area, and then at least 14-16 ft of camper behind the cab....

Did Chinook make any 5th wheel trailers back this old...?
I Would venture to say this camper is anywhere from 1965 to 1970 in age....She bought it in 73......

I found one pic on the net of a 69 Chevy With a Slide in Chinook that was 12 ft.....It looks the closest as far as Looks go....it has a very similar built Front cab / nose cap to it.....?

Thanks for the Info guys....

John.

I tried to buy a 64 Chinook up in Washington a few years ago. If they made them in 64, odds are in your favor for a 63.
