Why I'm not a mechanic

Post by 66fordtrucknut »

Fired up Eunice and washed her for the 1st time, was running a little rough but she hasn't ran all Winter. After she was running a little while started running better. Shut it off looking around, under the hood, I take off the distrib. cap looking for any corrosion from sitting, looked at the points, put everything back together, won't run at all. I had extra cap, rotor, still nothing. Not getting any fire at the plugs. I don't know what I did. I'll change the points later. Any ideas? I can fabricate anything, when it comes to mechanics, I don't get it.

I just looked at the points, to see how they looked, checked all the obvious connections, unless the coil wire is broke on the inside, I have a old set of wires I could see. Also I guess I should say it's a stock 223, Thanks

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the points.

first thing to do is take the coil wire off the coil, then have someone crank engine and see if you get sparking in the coil. If there is spark then the points and coil are ruled out, if no spark then points, coil or wiring are possibilities

this is who I bought mine from for my 352 , I got it for $105 which included the coil. This guy was cheaper than Jegs and Summit racing , plus free shipping ! I should have got the package with the wires , that package included everything for $130. I haven't installed mine yet , but I know it's a very easy hook up !

you do Not need the Pertronix Coil.

If the coil you have is shot, you may as well, but a stock coil will work just fine. I've been running a Standard brand coil for about 5 years with the Pertronix, hooked up with 12 volts.

About 2 years ago, I even installed an MSD 6AL with that same coil, and it works flawlessly. (the MSD shocks the pee out of the coil with 480v, but no probs.)
'63 with 390 & lots of juice. But never enough. Always want more.
