Find the parts now and have the info for the insurance adjuster. They won't have a clue where to find stuff like that. The easier you make it for them, the more likely they are to work with you on fixing it. However, I suspect they will most likely just declare it a total so they can pay it and get on with life. Fixing old vehicles like these is a real headache, even for someone like me.

Find out what the laws are regarding retaining and titling a total in your state.

Also begin shopping the internet for every truck similar to what yours is to help determine a value for it. 65-66 short/wide in my view would be comparable. Use ebay completed auctions, autotrader.com, Craigslist and whatever else you can find.

I'm always here if you have a question, since I do this for a living. 8)

Also make sure get real prices for parts. For example, you know where a door is and the junkard will let you pull it for $30 but your cost is not $30. Doors are $200 when you factor in searching, and transportation as well as your time for pulling it. I deal with insurance companies as a source for stuff like this and no door is under $200 although some are a lot more. The bed side is probably $1K unless you have damage I don't see like rust out. Man, that breaks my heart to see your truck crunched like that, but glad you're okay.

The advise about having comps is very good because you can show the real world value. I have my truck insured for theft for $10k.

Was the girl a minor? Just wondering if the Mustang was a graduation present or something. If you don't reach satisfaction with the insurance company, you can sue her (or her parents if she's a minor) in civil court for whatever the insurance company doesn't pay.

The best defense against insurance companies is the insurance commissioner's office in your state. Insurance companies do whatever they can to prevent a complaint to the ICO.

Glad you are OK. Sorry to see what happened to the truck. Little advice on value of your truck and what to do about insurance co. I would get some pictures of the truck and have an independant do an apraisal of the value of your truck before the wreck. If, they give you a hassl3e which I suspect they will, lthen you will have to provide documentation of the value of your truck. Gather up all the reciepts you have for parts and work done to the truck, Include hours yo9u have worked on it yourself at a reasonable rate. Restoration work runs anywhere from 20$/hour up Shop rates dare 50$/hour and up nearly anywhere you go. Ther are also online value guides for antique vehicles. You willneed the cooperation of a good shop to extablish cost of repairs and will have to contact people selling parts for these trucks to get a true idea of repair costs. Parts plush shiping along with documentation are of help. Go to places that sell the p[arts and get their prices, and be able to prove it. I have gone thru this and have a body repair bood giving hours to repllace parts for the trucks. Contact me direct if you need any of that information. Some insurance companies are real boogers to deal with.some are not. Allstate screwed my cousin badly. Any time they screw with me, I go for the gold. If they start out decent you may not have to go to this extent , but be prepared. Damage looks to be in excess of 4K$ to me. So good luck, and if you need help give me a hollar. I don't like insurance companies.

Sometimes you just have to have a little faith that the insurance companies and others do the right thing. My wife recently hit (or was hit) as she was moving into the left lane to make a turn. We think the girl (driving a beater station wagon) dove into the lane as she was changing lanes in order to get hit. It broke the drivers mirror on my wife's Saturn outlook and the side of the girls car looked like a demo derby car.The girls was young and slutty and so cop gave my wife a ticket for an improper turn.
The girl filed a claim with Allstate the next morning at 8:05. Allstate checked her driving record and insurance claim record and not only are refusing to to pay, but have turned her over to the authorities for possible insurance fraud. They are even paying for an attorney to represent my wife in traffic court if they are not able to get the ticket cancelled. So, keep the faith.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Wow. How truly sad, but typical of how people are today. Wont own up to their own mistakes. If I screw up I try to be apologetic about it, and sorry about what I did.

Bit - Allstate will do whetever possible to get out of paying and that sucks. Fact is, somebody would have to provide some form of insurance for the 2012 Stang to leave the dealership. Your best course will be to have Progressive handle the claim on your behalf. You will be responsible for your deductible (which won't matter if you fix it yourself), but that will come back to you when the subrogation is over.
Dang shame about your truck. Good luck.

Guess I'm old school, but why in the hell do people keep buying brand new cars for new drivers. Give them something slow and ugly not something they have to call their friends and brag about. Thats just a shame some twit in a new piece of plastic ruined a 40+ year old classic. Good luck with the repairs and the parts rundown. People kept saying at least your OK after my house fire and it didn't help the pain, but it is a good thing your fine.

Best of luck to you- I HATE dealing with insurance companies... It took us months to straighten out everything the last time I had a major accident, which was NOT my fault... They tried to low ball me every chance they could get. Stand firm- You WILL win in the end!

The difficulty in dealing with the insurance on my prior claim is part of why I got an 'agreed value' policy for my truck- I can only IMAGINE what I'd have to go through otherwise with an adjuster... If something happens, I know EXACTLY what I'll get out of it- Enough to buy a replacement, for sure.

I agree with all this! Forget about the principle of getting back to pre crash. Its time to get the money, and find another one.

My 64 with no,
driveshaft,
distributor,
fuel lines,
tranny fluid,
etc.
(It's not driveable yet basically) is insured presently for $10,000 with a $500 deductable.
This a combination of parts, the rust free truck, shipping one here, and some of my time. At some point because of what of ourselves we put in these you have to consider it some sort of an investment.
My last dealing with an adjuster was very pleasant actually - when my Jeep got wrecked. But then they better treat me good - I have 6 policies with them, lol.
Good luck with the Ins adjuster Bit - hopefully you get treated as well as I did.

well the adjuster showed up and said it was above his pay grade so they hired a specialist to come out. where i stand rite now is i talked to him and we are gonna try and keep the estimate to the lower side so that it will not total as if possible i do not want the salvage history on this truck that would be the upside the down side is i want get as much money out of it so hopefully sometime the first of the week they will call me and i will have to decide if i can do the lowball estimate or let them total it and have the salvage history. i have already bought a truck to fix it with and i did get it home on friday and pulled the bed side up off the rear tire and got the door to open to see how bad the cab was and i drove it up the road. it was nice to drive it again.

In KS you can get an Antique Title instread of a salvage title. Then there is no history.

Glad you got to drive it. If you don't plan on selling it then get as much $$ as you can now and deal with the salvage thing.

I would agree, assuming your concern with the salvage thing is resale I would do a bang up job on the rebuild and document document document, photograph the crap out of it now to show the details of the damage and your rebuild. If I was buying a car/truck with a salvaged title and they showed me pictures of the entire thing from crash photos to rebuilt truck to assure me it wasn't structural issues and the rebuild was done right I'd have no issues buying the vehicle, as long as they gave me all the pictures for my potential future sale. Take good quality pictures of everything inside and out. Good luck with it, it's well worth saving that's for sure.
