Its not a slick but still a ford. 1957 Del Rio. Pretty solid body. plan on a 390 C6 combo in it.

In 1957,I was 5 yrs. old, My Dad bought one that same colors. It had a 312 4bl. had the Thunderbird emblems on the valve covers. He had the local Fprd dealer replace the 4 bl. manifold and carb with a 2 bl. In 1961 We,Mom Dad my paternal grandparents my older sister and I went on vacation in that wagon. Up the East Coast spending one day in Washington D.C. spent about half of that time at the Smithsonian, went to the Capitol, drove past all the Memorials, rode the elevator to the top of the Washington monument and walked down the steps. Went to New York City the next day took the ferry over to Manhattan where we took a Gray Line Boat tour around the Island. Next day was spent at Niagara Falls and across the border to Canada. On the trip back home we stopped at Mt. Vernon. We took many other shorter vacations in that old wagon. Mostly to Florida, Daytona and PCB. Over the years as I got older and went from comic books to Hot Rods mags I had great plans for the old wagon once I became old enough to drive. In 65 Dad bought a new Plymouth wagon and used the 57 as a work car. In the fall of 67 my older sister got her DL after three tries in the Plymouth. She griped daily about not having a "car" to drive, so one day when I got off of the schoolbus there was a strange little turd brown car parked where the 57 usually set! Dad had traded it for a Corvair 4dr sedan to please her. My plans for the wagon were shattered. I missed the wagon, Dad said he did not know I had wanted the wagon although I had pictures of it, hand drawn and cut from magazines taped to the walls of my room. I understand now he sold it just to keep peace in the family. I had always planned to find one and rebuild it. Never going to happen now. Thanks for posting the pics brought back both great and bittersweet memories. Please post pics of your progress with this project

Ah Kenny, that is an awesome score! Looks as if you got some extra parts like fenders and things laying in the back too!
The rear gate and window frame appear to be in good shape which is not always the case.
Hope yours will be like the one John posted some of these days.

Not trying to poke fun at anyone, but that windshield and roof line sure makes the black car above look like a hearse...

I must admit, I don't recall ever seeing any of these around.

But, what a way to go :-)

I love Kenny's new ride, but what's most interesting to me is that J.C. posted a picture from Street Rodder Magazine

Hah don't feel the nailhead love yet Gerald. I just searched google for a picture of a 57 ford wagon. I remember that guy who takes the great pics with the Torino from Detroit had posted his buddy's car under construction. I think that is it.

You know, after RE-looking at that pick of the black wagon, that windshield and roof could be the donor for a slick panel wagon ;)

Interesting idea, but let's not be cutting up a nice Del Rio to do it. I would think the cars and wagons would have the same roof line?
Kenny is in a good position to do some measuring since he has the vehicles at hand to compare.
