Radiator Core SUpport
Radiator Core SUpport
I'm looking at the core support at Obsolete Classics. The catalog says 61-64 but will fit 65-66 with a few modifications. Does anyone have any experience with these core supports. I have two old ones now (66 F100 and 65 F250) but both are pretty rusty and the 66 has plenty of cancer. This one at Obsolete isn't cheap but I have to opportunity to get something for my 66 for Christmas. Any suggestions? Thanks

Dead easy to use. I have one and I love it for the price. I did put large holes in the bottom so the water will drain out.
The trick is to duplicate the holes for the inner fenders on your 66, but aside from that its not a big problem.
The radiator mounts and the battery tray are different too.
My brother lives in Ozark, so maybe one of these days we can visit.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

61-64 used round inner fenders and 65-66 used an angular type of inner fender.So drill new holes for the fenders or remove and remount your inner fender to core support pieces on both sides (left and right )that the inner fenders bolt up to. Not real hard to do and like skip says put some drain holes in the bottom for sure.

I have a 66 core support that is only rusted out in passenger side where the mount is supposed to be. In Dallas area. You can have it if you pull it. Fenders are already off the truck so only have to remove inner fenders and it will fall off in your hands. PM if interested

I have a pretty detailed pictorial on repairing a core support here - starts at the bottom of this page;

Core support
I bought the 64, re-pop, sawed off the rust on my 66 support and welded on the sawed matching bottom of the 64. Fits perfect! Use the 66 for a patern. My 66 support was rotten all along the bottom on both sides and was bent pretty bad in a wreck. Looks near perfect now and is as solid as new.

A 66` would be the latest core support you can use, the earlier ones will work!, you just need to re do the front guard mounting flanges.
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Re: Radiator Core SUpport
Not sure where "over here" is. But I am assuming shipping from USA would be cost prohibitive? Couple ideas. Get a core from anything that has the same distance between the frame rails as your truck. Then cut and fit your core to the newer stuff. This saves the hassel of finding inner fenders and shipping. Try to intercept a 64 core from the china manufactureur and have it shipped to you directly and then adapt it to your truck. I did this and the china core was well made and heavy. Or buy a solid core from e-bay and have the seller or someone on the coast ship it? Or you could just weld and build one of your own from whatever you have.

I recently saw 1965 core supports IN TWO MAGS, I believe one of them was National Parts Depot, maybe the other LMC
Located JUST SOUTH OF ATLANTA GEORGIA C.S.A.
