83 Bronco 302 to 300six swap
83 Bronco 302 to 300six swap
My son is looking at this Bronco 302 auto that is non running. The 302 is supposed to been rebuilt 4 yrs.ago at a cost of 1500 and set in but not hooked up, (yeah right, ain't they all)! Anyway we have the 300 six that was in my, now his, 66 along with the frame mounts from the 66. I know that the 300 and 302 have the same engine/trans bolt pattern. The 300 was a manual so I know he will need flexplate for the auto trans. IIRC their are two different tooth count plates plus is not there a difference between internal and external balanced engines. Also will the 300 engine frame mounts from the 66 work with the 83 bronco frame?

Re: 83 Bronco 302 to 300six swap
Obsa
as far as i know the 302 flywheel issue is pre/post 84 but remember my newest vehicle is an 82 and i have little knowledge or desire to mess with anything much newer.
last year i took a 300 6 out of a early 80s bronco , and i dont think anything from a slick other than the 300 block and 5x5.5 wheels can be used. i would guess the broncos perches are moved on the frame for the different engine blocks.
i would suggest looking on a bronco specific forum to get correct info

Thanks Brian,
I had already figured out that the engine perches wouldn't work. The Bronco is 4X4 where the 66 is twin I'beam. Must have been having a brain fart about the engine perches LOL.

Thanks Robert,
I didn't know that the oil pan would be different, what is the difference? Anyway it turns out that the vehicle is not a Bronco but a F150 swb 4X4! Really we are just looking for a truck to put the 300 in, my son is an Asst. manager at the local FLAPS and gets all kinds of leads, and the price is right on this truck $100 over scrap price delivered.
