getting it done!!

Post by Anthony »

dropped my '66 grill and JR west coast mirrors off at http://www.kustomkoatings.com/ this past week!! :woohoo: I am moving pretty good on the ole' girl.. working with my Buddy on the wiring, hopefully have it running in the next 2 weeks and the body work will begin soon... I am having the "etched" aluminum grill powder coated CHROME along with the mirrors.. I have seen these guys work and it looks great. I am so anxious!!! I will post pics of the finished parts when I get them back.... just thought I'd share my excitement... It's been a while...

The aluminum grills on our trucks come from the factory "bright or clear anodized". Anodizing is a surface treatment for aluminum that adds hardness to the surface and retains the shine of a polished part.
To redo that surface the part has to be stripped, polished and then reanodized.
Most anodizing is done with colors. Think red and blue Earl's Supply AN hose fittings or aluminum flashlights etc.
Shops that do clear anodizing are rare and usually located where there is a lot of aircraft/airline activity.
It is also not cheap and often it is cheaper to buy a new part than having the old one redone.

chroming is expensive around here and I can buy re-pops cheaper than having mine done... this shop is new and trying to get started and we belong to the same car club.. BB's car club... and the price for the grill and bezels and 2 mirrors with about 13 pieces each is under $175... great guys trying to help out where they can and make a living off of it, they also do ceramic coatings....

(thought you could see me beaming FT... )
