Brake Cylinders for a 62- These look wrong

Post by Phil »

I scored these at Autozone
Are they right? Their computer gave these as spec.
They are two piston VS what I have. Single.

I need my junk to stop and I can't swing the disk stuff now.

If these are wrong I'll bite the bullet and get it together with disks I think. I just can't spare the addl $100 and the wait for parts right now.

You have a very late production 62... Those are the infamous "63" single push cyls.

NO one makes them in repop or rebuilt.

Use the correct 62 ones auto zone gave you and add parts to convert to the double type cyl.

Thanks!

They don't come with the pusher pins.
If my Fairlane ones will swap in I may try em.
What parts do I add?
Shoes and stuff?

I'm still debating the disk conversion. I ordered the pltes.

Phil, I still have all the backing plates etc. off my 62. Wheel cylinders are shot but these take the regular double piston type wheel cylinders.

Hauler --you are good to go eeeeer stop!

Grab 2 of your Fairlane pins and put it all back together. Thats what I did on my 63. Everything went together fine.

Those single sided things are JUST WRONG, I say!

NO ONE makes rebuild kits for the single cyl. brake setup.. One year only. You might find some old dried up NOS stuff out there, but its easier to just convert to double acting cylenders.

Greg will set you up..They will not be self adjusting d=so be aware.

I actually said rebuild kits but what is actually done is you take the old piston ,and rubber seal and cover in and match them up, they are individual pieces and standard sizes, all you need is a good part store that knows what they are doing, and almost every time the size is on the piston and the boots

Thanks Guys!

I pretty much decided to do the swap Greg did.
I have a 3 week wait or so on parts. I have almost everything now except the Master cylinder.

I also bought upper and lower front leaf bushings from NAPA.
Luckily I took in the part numbers from the web. When I told the guy what I wanted by app he was like "nope out of production"
I threw down my numbers and he still sandbagged saying they would take a week to get. I ordered them at $10 each or so.
I think I shorted myself 4. I ordered 2 upper and 2 lower but got none for the back of the spring. Ill get em later and swap em then.
