Heres what happened to one of the rescue squads trucks in our county,, New 6.7 power stroke,, took it to local garage used a WIX Filter DID NOT USED A MOTORCRAFT and the WIX failed and heres what happened it Wiped out the motor, FORD Said no warranty due to not using corret oil filter,, our county had to pay out over 18,000 dollars for engine replacement and now in court battle with WIX,Ford and the garage that changed the oil so bottom line beware of what oil filters your using,, our Cummins we use Fleetgaurd and Cummins told us anything else you just bought a Motor,, same as fuel anything else will raise warranty issues

have a link to the story Tom?

whether it be a Napa gold 1515 or a Wix 51515, IMO they are great filters.

only other filter i would even consider using would be AC Delco brand

i would believe a Install failure was the cause over a filter failure 9 days of the week.

there are only a few companies making filters and i have always used wix/donaldson and i believe fleetgard is also made by the same company. I cut my filters open on my race engines and have no idea what caused a wix filter to kill a motor. Sounds more like ford trying to get out of warranty on one of there "QUALITY" diesel products.

The Advance Auto Parts here in my town has a display of cut-open oil filters of almost any brand you can think of. About 15 filter in all. Every other brand except fram has metal end caps on the actual filter element. The Fram had cardboard. Even Advance's store brand was better made.

In the 80's I was a line tech for a Mitsubishi dealer. At LEAST once a week, we had a car with a 2.0L engine come in with the oil light on. EVERY SINGLE TIME, the car had either a Fram, or an STP Double Oil Filter on it. I would replace it with a factory filter and the oil pressure would be fine and the light would go off. Never saw that problem with Napa, Wix, etc. . .

Wix makes Napa Gold (fact) and some AC Delco (supposedly), as well as some others. Most of the NASCAR teams use Wix filters.

i had a motor with inconsistant oil pressure on a dyno 15 years ago and it was a fram filter element coming apart

Seen two Frams fail. One on my 318 Dodge collapsed internally and let all the crud go through the engine, the other on my FE Ford actually split open and dumped all the oil out on the road. Haven't used Fram since. I contacted Fram about them, never did get back to me.
