65...supposedly

Post by 66Gobbler »

Haven't posted in awhile. My 66 is still in pieces but I thought I'd share some pics of a 65 my dad just picked up. 352 4spd. The usual rust but overall pretty good shape. The title says its a 65 but I'm wondering...I thought the indentation in the center of the roof line was a feature on the 66 models. This one has that as well as a 66 grill and oil/amp guages in the dash. Thought the gauges was 66 feature also. VIN shows a manufacture date in Sep of 65 at the K.C. plant. Kinda late in the production year. A 65 model made with a 66 cab? Any possibility, or am I wrong about the 66 cab roofs having the indentation?

65 Accelerator pedal is mounted on the floor, on 66 it is hanging off the firewall. 66 Grill was a replacement item so it could still be a 65. Radiator mount on 65 was bolted to a bracket on the radiator core support 66 bolted directly to the core support. 66 battery box is different than 65. And some 64's were registered as 65 and vice versa. So you may have a 66 registered as a 65. Check the warranty plate and be sure the number matches the frame stamping (right frame rail near the alternator) and the title.

also, the floor mount gas pedal was a mid year "running change" in 65 to a shaft mounted pedal for the rest of that year and all of 66.

Forgot about the gas pedal difference on 65-66 models.

like ezer said 65 had floor mounted gas pedal for partial year, then later model 65's switched to a firewall mount type. I think a Dennis Carp book might have the serial number switch listed.

That is a cool truck!
The rear bumper is awesome.
If it cain't be fixed with a sledge hammer it must be an electrical problem!
