Oil Pan Removal

Post by cerberus1966Six »

OK, yet another newbie kind of question here: Do I have to raise the engine off the mounts of my '66 to remove the oil pan? The engine is a 240, for which I've been using my Econoline shop manual, but there's not going to be anything accounting for the F100 engine crossmember in there, of course (there's essentially nothing in the way on an Econoline, but you do have to deal with rather cramped quarters), and I haven't yet found the $100 needed for the F100 manual. I tried to eyeball the clearance, but still wasn't too sure.

Thanks.

Not sure of the I6, but you do with the V8. Also with the V8 you need to unbolt the oil pump and take it out with the pan. Sorry I don't know much about the I6 trucks.

If I recollect correctly, the valve cover hits the firewall B4 you can lift the engine high enough to slip the crank case out from under the engine while it's still in the engine bay with the tranny attached. . . . .

I recall reading over at Fordsix that you need to jack up the engine about 2" and then you can get the oil pan out. But I cannot promise that......

That's for 240/300 in a truck. I am not sure if FBP is recalling correctly -- I cannot imagine that the valve cover in my 240 would hit the firewall until was about 45 degree angle in the engine bay. Depends where you pivot from of course.......

Thanks for the input, guys. It probably wouldn't hurt me to put in new motor mounts, if I'm going to jack it up, eh? 2" I can do (no jokes, please), so I'll guess I'll roll the dice and see, but here's hoping I don't have to undo the oil pump while I'm at it. *That* would be just a little too much icing on this cake!

"YOu can do it"

I have a 66 with a 352 & I had to raise the motor up off the engine blocks to remove the oil pan, oil pump screen and oil pump.

I even lifted the engine a little to high and the engine slid off the studs of the motor mount. I was able to use a long 2x4 to make it slide back on.

I got it all together and it works....

I did all this while I have been recovering from a brain injury so I think you should be okay

okay it took me 4-5 days to figure it out but it works
