under the bed tank install help

Post by kevance »

I have a 64 F100 short bed and am trying to locate a tank to fit into the rear frame with minimal modifications. Has anyone here relocated the gas tank on a short bed and if so do you have any pointers? I have surfed all over the net and have not found anything close and I'm guessing it's because I have a short bed. I've seen mustang tanks being used but the dimensions are more than what I in my framework. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Iceman that helps a lot. I would like to go with a 20 gallon but I guess I've got to live within my means.

I used a 20 gal. 69 Mustang tank for mine and did not modify anything. Just built a frame and bolted it up.

Did the Mustang tank in mine, too. They are cheap on EBAY complete with the stock Mustang sender that works with Ford gauges. Mine was a '57 but the frames are very similar.

I put a 22 gal 1970 mustang tank in and hung it just below the frame rails. I didn"t move anything on the frame.

How does all this apply to a long bed?
