Started the cv ifs swap

Post by 66Slick »

Ford site didn't mean for the old suspension to come out . Got Dam that thing took me 5 hours of grinding, prying , and sweating ! Got the ifs in and mounted looks sweet , but I didn't get the drop I thought I would .. All in all seems like a rad swap ..

Got the swap done . Not to happy with how it turned out . I measured 50 times and the driver side tire seems Alittle closer to the fender than the passenger side , don't rreally know whSt happened . It's time to rip it out and start over .. BUMMER

Before you move the suspension - did you check to see if the sheetmetal's straight?what is the measurement from the frame to the ground?

Well it has been hit on the driverside before I bought it . All the measurements I took off the frame are the same on both sides , but on the driverside it's closer to the fender on the front side . It's not much but I'm the kinda person that this kinda thing really really bothers me . Hopefully it is the sheet metal seeimg as it has been hit on driverside hoping this is the problem ...

What you want to do is cross measure each segment of the frame between crossmembers. If it was hit previously, you likely have some damage that was not repaired properly. Ladder frames are pretty forgiving in this respect, as far as sheetmetal alignment goes.....and if it has only ever had a front end alignment ( as opposed to a four wheel alignment), they may not have noticed.......or simply didn't want to open that can of worms.....

If I knew how to post pics I would show y'all where it got hit because the fender still has the dent from being hit . Maybe you guys could take a guess on if that would affect the gap. It's not a lot but enough to bug the shot out of me ... Eeerrrrrr

posting pics is easy best way is with photobucket
www.photobucket.com
it lets you upload pics from your computer to their site.
then you can easily transfer them directly from there into your post.

now i will discuss the hit my 61 short uni took to the drivers side which did bend the frame
i had no indication of this other than the fender dent when i bought the truck
it did not affect the driving, you could let go of the wheel and it stayed straight in the road.
i did not discover the bend until i took the body off
i was bothered by the frame cant because it:
looked off and this bothered me
was going to wear out my spring bushings prematurely.

i ended up cutting another truck frame and welding the front end of it up to the back end of mine
again the bend never affected the steering or driving it just was not something i could live with putting back together without fixing.

now
your truck was hit on the drivers side too
big question is did the cab move sideways or diagonally on the frame and did the core support also move?

if you measured all of the frame before installing the cv clip and you welded/bolted it on to a straight frame then the issue must be body alignment.
you say its not off a lot but you do not give a measurement is it 1" or less or is it more like 2-3"

check out photobucket, pics would be of great help in this.

After checking frame for diamond, x measuring, if square check from frame to body to see if body is sitting square on frame. diamond is fairly easy for frame tech to remove.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.

open the posting window and photobucket in separate tabs

open the pic you wish to post in another tab
on the right side of the screen you will see 4 lines of codes
left click on the bottom line - IMG code- a yellow tag will appear "copied"
go back to the post window and right click then left click paste
the picture info will be pasted into the post window

(i have purposely omitted the / in the 2nd Image

hope this helps
