Door Hinges

Has anyone, and I'm sure most have but how does the hinge pin come out of the hinges? Punch out? Screw out? I don't want to do any damage trying to punch them out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Oh I forgot the hinges are on a 64

all 61-66 hinges are the same design, 65/66 do have a spring and catch to keep the door open.
the pins are pressed in.

Yep. Punch out. Replacements are available @ Fasten all. I had a local machinist install cheeevee valve guide liners and then ream them to fit the new pins. Makes realigning the doors much easier.

I though the 64's also have the spring and catch. Mine does. Yes, they are all the basic design, but they don't interchange do they? I had a 65 parts truck and was going to "steal" the hinges off it to put on my 63 Uni and they were different enough that they wouldn't bolt up.

only difference i was aware of was the threads on the door end

are you saying the bolt pattern where they go into the cab is different or they do not fit into the square holes in the cab because of the springs?

The bolt pattern didn't line up. I believe the 65 bracket arm was a little longer also, but I've slept since then and the truck is long gone.

Couple of points.
1. The upper recess in the "A" pillar must have an indent towards the outside to accept the later hinges with a spring and catch. The recess would sorta look like a "P" on the passenger side (and a reversed "P" on the driver's side.)
I do not know if '61-'63 cabs have this capability.

2. The hinge pins are aligned with thick spacers swaged onto the hinge bracket, one on top and another on the bottom of the hinge bracket. Driving the pin out may dislodge the upper one, and driving the new pin in may pop the bottom one off. They will need to be welded back on. Fortunately, it will be possible to line them back up easily enough, as the swaged points will position itself.

I put 65 hinges in my 63 cab. Just had to cut it to fit and the bolt holes will line up. It makes for a nice upgrade, door stays open without shuttin on your leg.
