A Little Paint...

Post by 1965F-250CustomCab »

I've had the truck for about three weeks, and my insurance agent wanted me to paint the bed because she was worried about the underwriter (or something), so I decided to paint it up. It was just surface rust, so I used Phospho on it, primed with rattle cans, and bought a paint gun for the top-coat. First time I've ever used one. It came out ok. I didn't fix any dents. Here's some photos...

Thanks folks. We'll see how the paint holds up. The truck's not a rust bucket, but there are some minor spots of cancer in hard to reach places. It was repainted at one point so I'm not sure about the amount of bondo on it. The engine is a tired (compression around 125 psi in all) 360 from a 1973 Ford w/ headers and duel exhaust. It's hard to start when cold, but seems to have decent power down the road. There's an issue with blow-by on the left head (I think). I get some oil out the breather when driven hard and it gets on the headers and smokes. My guess from reading forums is it needs new umbrella seals.

Thanks ICEMAN6166 for the help posting...

Nice job.

I started sanding the box of my truck yesterday. I'm planning on painting it in the next couple of weeks. Might see if I can get is soda blasted for $100 some place and save the time sanding. Even thought it's for sale, I have the paint and finishing the inside of the bed will take the truck to the next level.

great job!

its always preferred to completely strip a restoration down to the frame, used the perfect media blaster with the perfect media, and or have it dipped with the perfect chemical to strip all the rust, paint etc..... use the high dollar paint, etc etc... HOWEVER you have proven once again it doesnt have to break the Bank to get a nice look and protection on our trucks.
Awesome job!
and by the way, that is one of my favorite colors...besides Red! :)

1965 SWB Going 302 w/C4 Auto (Matthew's)
1969 Dodge Charger "replica General Lee" 440 w/727 (Mine)

If you sent your Truck out to a restoration shop, you did NOT build it, jus sayin!
