That is awesome work! So the first thing you do is grab a sawsall and chop the dash out of the cab so you are comfortable when you do this right?

Looks great, how much wax did you put on the dash? Did it remove easy? I wonder how this would do for a dash area that had the radio hole mutilated?

I used bee's wax and I put one fairly heavy coat on,then let it sit over night ,
then another coat on the morning I applied the stuff,
It toke a bit of work to get it off mainly around the instrument panel,just don't rush it and take your time.
Were you have a radio hole you could patch it from behind with steel either spot weld it or screw it and finish it of with body filler.

I understand the process, I used to be a model/mold maker.
I would however like to understand more on how you did the foam/vinyl.
Could you post pics of the two with whatever scrap you have left? how did you attach them?

Thanks John,
I used closed cell foam and vinyl to cover the dash ,when I had my seat redone I bought extra vinyl to finish my interior.

Closed cell foam comes in different thickness and hardness. the harder foam can be shaped by sanding.
I used 3 mm and the softer stuff so it can follow the contours of the dash ,

I bought a cheap gravity spray gun to apply the contact adhesive,the glue can sit in a gun for a couple of day's before it will go of , cleaning up is done with turps

If you can get a hold of a book called Custom Auto Interiors by Don Taylor and Ron Mangus ,this is a very helpful book with easy to read instructions.

Could a guy use part of this process to recover a stock dash thats just got one little crack in it by the speaker or do you think the crack would show through the new vinyl?
