2 quick questions ignition and brakes

Post by blueovalmadness »

Ok I'm almost finished with my 65 4x4 build but I have 2 issues.

#1 I put the body onto a 78 3/4 4x frame how do I wire the brain box into the 65 wiring harness?

#2 I swapped the brake booster over to the 65 firewall but the rod is too long and goes past where it should mount to the pedal. Does anyone know of a booster that will have the right length rod? And does anyone know where to splice in the brake light switch?

Sorry if these questions come off as a bit dumb. But I have been putting so many hours in on this truck that my brain is fried but I want to be driving the truck to work on monday

1. its fairly simple somewhere i have a diagram if no one else posts it i willl look for it
2.should be the 65-72 rod
3.factory brake light wires are in the engine compartment you just need to move them inside to the brake pedal switch

Did you swap all the parts that go from the booster to the pedal?

If so you should have a flat bar that bolts to the pedal.

Set the pedal against the stop and measure where the hole in the flat bar needs to be.

I put 1 inch spacers between the booster bracket and the firewall, then use 4 longer bolts to mount everything up. The rod will now bolt on to the brake pedal arm in the stock position. Most here rig a bracket to hold a mechanical switch that is actuated when the brake is applied. Do a search for brake light switch, some here have posted pictures. And you can swap the 78 brake pedal arm onto the 65 brake/clutch pedal support to correct the pedal/booster rod position.

You can also put a T fitting in and use the pressure switch.
If you move the switch inside, I'd recommend a GM style plunger switch, easy to fab a bracket for, easy to adjust.
I have used a Ford type pedal switch, they can be a pain to get set up right.
