shortening a long box unibody ... idea's or builds

Post by Hillbilly63 »

Hi all, first time on this new site. I was thinking with all the long box uni's floating around has anyone built a short box out of a long box unibody. It may not be cost effective, but it should be possible. I was thinking the box sides would be shortend at the rear, the bed floor and wheel housing moved forward, along with the wheel well opening on the box side. The taillight housing area would need to be cleaned up to match the narrower upper body line in the bed side. If it is done right it should look very close to a original short bed truck. Any thoughts or build threads...

I guess anything can be done given enough time and money. My question would be why? Why not just buy a short bed Uni?

There is a member on the HAMB with a long bed uni that has had the rear of the bed shortened 8" by a previous owner. The wheelbase is unaltered and I must say I like the proportions. Reminds me a bit of a dentside Camper Special:

I agree the one on the hamb looks great, been seriously considering turning my long into a mid length one of a kind, spliting the difference between long/short maybe play with the wheel opening a little, i say go for it hillbilly!

that mid length looks right, not off to me...

You drop a long uni down and it looks much better as well.

And Mike still has the best I have ever seen...
