Ditto, no more than I drive my trucks, the difference between 15 mpg and ten is well worth it IMO. My 223 doesn't do much better with me driving.

You know what I think but I'll type it again.
Hot Rod the 6 - be different (swapping in a 302 is one step away from a SBC transplant).
No the 6 won't sound like the rumbling V8 - that's part of the point....................
Lower it, pinstripe it a little.
I see you driving it done that way more than the later style stuff.
After all the first place you will want to go with it when you are done is Greaserama - those Cragars won't fit in there.
If you do wheels find something traditional.
I know I have a 302 - if I could have rounded up the scratch for the built 6 I wanted it wouldn't be in there.
I have aluminum wheels - they are a copy of the old Halibrand Sprints.
The farther away from where it is you think of going the harder it will be to convince yourself.
Remember the KISS principle my friend.

wha.gif Greg, I didn't see that coming  Pretty much the way I feel about the 302's.

Here's how I look at it...anything that is reversible is fair game. Changing drive trains, wheels, brake systems, etc is no big thing on these trucks. Nuts and bolts...you can always return it to stock if that spirit moves you. And, go with the time proven stuff that isn't a trend. Wild graphics went out with the 1990s. Pro Street peaked in the 80s. Rat Rods are all the rage right now and frankly I was tired of them five years ago. Now Patina is the rage. And those useless, silly slammed-to-the-ground trucks that are trying to be Hondas (sorry kids, but I just think they are the dumbest thing I've ever seen). A good, clean, light custom truck always looks good.

What I wouldn't do is irreversible things: chopping roofs, shaving door handles, Z'ing frames, cutting 400 louvers in your hood. The fact that you struggle with what to do with this particular truck tells me these are things you may some day regret.

As others have said, it's your truck and you should do what you want. Many will disagree with my opinions about what these trucks should be, but that's okay. I think Priuses are stupid too, but look how many of those things they sell. 8)

I asked my friend that I bought my 66 from if he "minded" if I painted it a different color... He looked at me kinda funny, & said: "I don't care if you paint it sky-blue-pink! It's your truck!" These are among his words I've lived by since.

Guess I will weigh in, although it makes me kind of sick that twice this truck has come up for sale, and I can't do anything about it. :?
Something is only original once. Doesn't matter what it is. But, does that mean you should treat it like a temple?

I bought a Mercury, changed it to a big back window and installed a 302 in it. Some people would call that a sacrilege of biblical proportions. But the truck I bought was already hacked, and had had a 428 (now missing) in it before I got it. It was far from the pristine black truck Cam bought from it's original, little old lady owner.

I have to admit, my dad was a president of a local antique car club, and made it exceeding clear to me throughout my early development, that hacking up an antique for a hot rod was tantamount to taking a sharpie and scratching nipples and a goatee on the Mona Lisa.
But I thought this recent era of a truck, that was fairly plentiful, would not really be that big a crime.

If I owned your black truck I just couldn't do it either, Ezer. But, to be honest if I really face up to it, it would not be the crime of the century. Much less so than the type of drive train hack jobs that I won't mention here. And if it gets sold to someone from Craigslist and you don't know.. it could well end up like that, and with a Black Gold body makeover to boot. It would probably bring a tear to my eye, but I had my chance. (not really).

If you sell it, I really don't want to see it ever again. I don't think i could take it. But hey it's the buyer's money not mine. He could strip the body off it and crush the parts, replacing it with a Nash Ramber station wagon body on the frame.

Nope I don't ever want to see it again.... nono.gif
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

the current philosophy is a "do nothing" philosophy. it's hard to kill anything that way. i have my sights set on a 68 lesabre 400. just putting gas in it should kill any ambition i have quite quickly.
