Daughters 16th birthday present
Daughters 16th birthday present
I had her hooked early on as she watched me rebuild a few classic pickups growing up. We made a deal a few years ago if she kept her grades up, stuck with love which is Softball and stayed away from getting a boyfriend I would find her an original patina pickup. She loves original patina and especially two tone paint. Well I found this with a month to spare!
Original family owned 1966 with a 352 that has 90,000 miles. The last family member to own it had the interior done up perfect. I am going to buff it, throw on some mirrors and wrap it in a bow.
I need a steering wheel horn setup and a set of interior passenger window and door handle.
Any advice on buffing her up?

I would think that the CLR would take off all of the oxidation but I would think that you will have to put some wax on it to preserve it.

Soft Scrub with Bleach for the white; non-bleach Soft Scrub for the rest if doing by hand. If using a good DA polisher, Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Finish it up with a good wax such as Mequiar's. For the aluminum trim, if you don't care to remove the anodizing, use the Mequiar's Ultimate Compound followed by Meguiar's Cleaner Wax.
If you really want to get carried away, de-anodize (carefully) with EZ-OFF oven cleaner (yellow label), hit it with 320 wet or dry paper, then 600, then 1200, then Mother's mag & aluminum polish.
Stainless trim, it's the Mequiar's Cleaner Wax.

Oh, and for the windows, Rain Guard cleaner, polish, and protectant, spray or gel, on wetted glass, (and it don't take much!).

Re: Daughters 16th birthday present
Thanks all, we got on it tonight and she is buffing up nicely. I was scrubbing one rim and scrubbed the valve right off:). New valves all around to be safe and we will be back at it. Updated photos soon!
