Installing a Mustang fuel tank

Post by Uncle Skip »

Several people have asked about this article I wrote several years ago for Classic Trucks Magazine and somehow it's gotten lost in the shuffle.
So here is the link to the actual article.
I'll add some extra pictures for you to look at for ideas on your own truck.
One thing I would change is the filler neck size. I'd put a 1" or 1-1/2" filler neck in rather than the 2" one I used. Smaller is better and don't forget the vent tube.
Here's the link.

I'll attach more pictures later.

Here are some construction photos that I'm attaching for ideas that might not have been in the original article. Some are reruns, some you haven't seen.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Also, I welded the mounting bolts inside the frame because there is NO access to the underside of the bed with the tank in place.
And in case you missed it, the lower lip of the frame has to be trimmed about3/8 inch on each side so the tank can fit between the frame rails.

Here's my take o the same deal. I mounted mine a little higher for more clearance since my '57 sat pretty low.
