Stolen tailgate

Post by Uncle Skip »

Attention guys and girls around here in Texas. Someone stole my flair side tail gate. Its a long story but if you run across someone trying to sell this piece please call me.
Image
Meanwhile, I'm driving to Austin in the morning to buy a new, OEM tail gate so I can get on with the project.
No tail gate, no pin striping today. That's what really sucks.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

It's kinda distinctive with the flat panel and the dual slide latches on the inside.

When we lived in the "city" we lost so many bikes that we finally just put a map to Walmart in the carport.

But usually they steal something they can ride or that's not too heavy. A tailgate is pretty heavy. Might also check out the local swap meets also.

I posted it on Craig's List as being stolen and offering a finders fee.
I have no earthly idea why anyone would take that instead of some of the other stuff I have laying around.
But you can bet I'll be looking at the swap meets too.
All I can say is WTF?

They take it out of your garage? Or was it outside? Either way, they must have needed a flareside tailgate really bad. :-)

The kind of guy who could find a $50 sideoiler in an arts and craft add. I looked around some on craigslist didn't see anything. Looked through adds for ford parts. If I were sorry enough to steal I would put it under "old ford parts" or "early F150 parts". Something inconspicuous and misleading.

Skip, I can almost guaranty you that at todays scrap prices the a**holes that took had no clue what it fit or it's true value and didn't care. It was just a little more weight at the scales and is most likely already gone. Up here we have to nail everything down or it will be gone before you know it.

That sucks Skip! Was it sitting outside where thieves could see it or in the garage
and somebody came inside and took it? Either way you have a thief in the area,
and if they have seen that then they may be back. Good luck on catching the sorry jerk. TR

Notice Skip has never "owned up" to where the tailgate was when it was pilfered? I'm thinking he left it it a bar some where and forgot where he left it.

I believe the place was called "The Sand Bar".
Four years into a project; lots of sanding; sounds like an honest mistake to me. :P

Back story that everyone keeps asking about.
My business partner agreed to help a guy down on his luck he knows (just out of prision) by letting him store his yard service equipment in the warehouse last year.
Unfortunately, like a lot of people who are struggling to get started after being in prison, he doesn't have a good grasp of common sense or responsibility and gradually kept moving more and more stuff in to the point where he finally took up residence in the back using our electricity and water. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but then people started showing up at all hours of the day and night, people that I didn't know who they were, the building was being left open unattended for hours at a time and in the middle of the night, and then things kept getting worse.
He changed the locks (without giving me a key or even letting me know he's changed them) while I was gone to my grand daughters college graduation because he lost his keys he said.
No, I have no way of knowing if he gave keys to anyone else.
When I got back and found out, I re-locked the entire place but found out he'd left the back overhead door unlocked and was continuing to get in. Then he pried the siding back and was slipping in there.
After a serious discussion "we" agreed he needed to go somewhere else and soon.
I've since evicted the man and he's only allowed to come in to take his belongings as long as I'm there.
The building is now secure and said dude understands that if he goes in without me there for "anything" he's going to jail again for breaking and entering.
That and the fact that I always have my .45 on my hip when I go over and let him in to move stuff out makes things go pretty smooth.
But some time during the last 5 months, "someone" walked out with the tail gate. I had it stored behind a hood upstairs so it and the hood wouldn't get damaged. The hood had been moved, the tail gate is gone. I still believe he wouldn't steal from me, but his buddies would.
So far, the tail gate seems to be the only thing missing except some materials that could be sold as scrap.
I'm still checking, but Toyz and BroncoTom will tell you that you could be in that warehouse for two years and you'd still see something new every day you're there. That's why I call it Paradise. So if anything else is missing, it might be some time before I discover what it is.
But still, for the life of me, I can't imagine of all the valuable things in that warehouse, why someone would take a specialized use tailgate.
So that is why the tailgate is gone.
Stupidity and trust.
Never a good combination.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

Man, that is such BS. And this is why people who really need assistance from good people don't get it, cause you just can't trust them or the people they hang around.

Unfortunately, my brother is one of those people in that situation and I have been burned some many times by him, I don't offer assistance for him. But I do let his son live with me.

I hope you find your tailgate and hope this person isn't there anymore. Even if he didn't take it, the people he hangs out with did and that means he is still hanging with the wrong crowd and will end up in jail eventually. Again, this is from experience.

Good luck skip.
