Personally, I would not "pull" the driveshaft.
Simply disconnect it at the third member yoke and securely tie the shaft up out of harms way, keeping in mind that the yoke will be rotating. By doing this, you will not lose all transmission fluid, or have to find a way to seal the tailshaft of the transmission. When doing this on a transmission with a slip yoke at the trans output shaft, care must be taken to secure in a way to avoid the shaft becoming loose from the trans. This is NOT the case in your application, but still should be secured with that in mind, IMO.

Good advice on the junk yard rims but be watchful of the rims with rivets. They will probably contact the drum and distort it some. I'm not aware of the years but I did try about 9 different ones at a buddy's scrap yard and the only one of his stash that did not bind was a Firestone steel wheel. It was welded instead of riveted.

Thanks :D The 390 got a workout that day, as did the old drum brakes. I probably shouldve upgraded to discs before the tow

I believe the wheels are 16, I'll have to double check that. And I think they're one piece cause it has radials. They don't work on the split wheels do they?

Yea shes in really good condition for out here. Banged up on the outside and the interior needs some redoing, but the truck spent its life in Oregon so pretty much everything underneath looks totally rust free.

Little off topic but I wish I had gotten some pics of the 63 the guy had (You can see it in the first pic). It was a short wrongbed 3 speed 223 mileage maker. Looked to be totally original. He bought it from Cali and it looked like it just came out of the factory. He had a retro Serro Scotty trailer hooked up to it. It was a pretty sweet ride. I told him about the site so maybe we'll see it on here soon.
