Chris I will be using 3M seam sealer on mine never had a problem with any 3M products and most auto parts stores stock it . All you need is a caulk gun and your ready to go .

Sounds good. How long before you can paint over it?

Is my tailgate the right type for a 64? I see some 64s that are the center latch style, so I was wondering if maybe my tailgate was not a 64.

Chris your truck has what we call a " Wrong bed " on it . This bed was used from 1962 to 1963 on F100 2 wheel drive trucks but was also used all the way to 65 or 66 on some 4 wheel drive trucks and others like the F250's and F350's . What I am not sure of on your truck is if it is the " right bed " for your truck as I recall your truck is mounted on a 70's 4X4 frame so it has had some work done to it . I had a 64 F100 2 wheel drive longbed that had the standard 64 through 66 bed on it but I would guess some of the guys that know more about the " wrong beds " will be able to tell you if its right or not for your truck :D.

The 64 F100 4wd and the f250 4wd trucks both would have had a wrong bed as the proper stock bed. 64 2wd would have the newer styleside bed. Your tailgate is correct for the wrong bed styleside.

Thanks for the info on the tailgate. Next issue is getting the PS installed. Problem is the local garage shop guy that was going to get me one does not have one I heard today. I am looking for a 78-79, heavy half with leaf springs, power steering unit. If anyone has one let me know a price shipped to 82201.

If someone has a better suggestion for a PS unit let me know. I am just going by what the garage guy told would be the best fit in my 64. My frame and running gear are a 74 F100 4x4.

Chris is there any chance you could post up some pics of how the former owner was able to make the 64 cab work on the 74 frame. What Im wondering is did the PO use a 2wd 64 cab or a 4wd cab and how did he get the bed to mount on a wider frame and how did he deal with the front cab mounts. Im wondering if he took the mounts from the 64 4wd frame and grafted them to the 74 or did they do a complete mod to get that cab onto that frame. The 74 frame is wider in the back after 73 so that's why Im wondering how he made the box work and the cab mounts up front for a 64 are way different for 74 so it would be interesting to see what they did thanks.

The front cab mounts were taken off the 64 frame and modified to fit the 74 frame. The rear cab mounts were completely fabricated. I'll try to get some pics this evening. The 64 was a 4x4 truck, as is the 74 running gear.

I have a Holly 4bbl on my 64 390 that I would like to swap out of a smaller 4 bbl for fuel economy reasons. I'm not sure what the cfm size is on it. It may be a 750 cfm. Maybe someone here can tell me based on the carb numbers. The numbers are 80508-3 and 2046. Here is a link to the pics of the one I have now.

I'd like to go with a 450 cfm like this one.

What do you all think about my plan?

Has anyone here downloaded the PDF file for a headliner pattern for 64-66 F100 from Broomfieldbum? If so can you email me a copy?

How come my 1964 F100 4X4 Styleside tailgate does not look like the ones on DC website? Mine has the old style chain and hook latch system, not the center latch style. Is there a proper name for my style tailgate? I was looking for some sort of rubber seal to keep it from rattling.

The "wrong-bed utilizes the chain and hook system. If you no longer have a rubber sleeve on the chains, these alone will greatly reduce the noise level. If the bumpers are in place and the latches are not worn out, you should be able to minimize rattling.

The bumpers are what I was searching for. I have not found them listed anywhere. Thought it was because I was not using the right terminology for my style of bed/tailgate.

Chris heres a page from Dennis Carpenter with your bed chains . You are looking for 1957-1963 styleside bed parts . I don't see the tailgate bumpers listed for your year so you may want to call them and see if they carry them or know who does .

So mine is a 57-63! That's why I could not find the rubber parts. My tailgate does not have a hole to put the round bumpers as the other models have. The tailgate has a 1/2" x 1/2" channel for a long strip of rubber or closed cell foam for the tailgate to sit against. I have some thin wall black tubing I am going to use on the chains to keep them from rattling, or I may use some redneck fix of some black garden hose. Depends what fits. I think I can get some closed cell foam at ACE today and use some 3M weather strip adhesive to glue them on.

My 64 is on a 74 chassis and has a 390. The thermostat is a 160. Seems too cold to me. Think it ought to be a 180. What you say????
