Correct color of "F O R D" letters on 65' tailgate

It's been a long time since I have posted anything on this board guys. I have a question about the correct color for the tailgate letters (F O R D) for my 1965 Standard Cab. I want to paint the truck with a tu-tone Navajo Beige/Wimbledon White but I don't know what color the tailgate letters are? Is it red or white? Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

I would say white.

The ones I have seen that are beige the letters are red

My notes on the subject:
TAILGATE 'FORD' LETTERING COLORS
White and red letters were the most popular colors, however, black letters was also used.
Tailgates painted white, tan or yellow have red letters.
Tailgates painted black, blue or green have white letters.
Tailgates painted red could have black or white letters, most were black.

So - I would say go with RED letters for your mostly beige tailgate..........

I would agree mostly with Barnietrk, all the stock Beige trucks i have seen had red letters.
Not sure if I have seen a red truck with Black letters tho. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention

I found and bought a 'new take off' 65/66 gate this past fall that was beige. I think the letters were white but unfortunately I didn't take any pictures and it has been stripped/primed now......

I do know I have seen red on beige before though.

Dad took a look and my 66 has tan body color letters. Its a original paint truck. Maybe they came both ways? My 65 f100 is all white custom cab and has red letters, also original paint.

Never heard of a factory stock style side tailgate with the letters not painted a different colour. I'd guess the colour either faded off the one you saw that way, or it was repaired,
or a new one repainted after an accident
