addco sway bar on my 64 question

i have a 64 f100 swb 2wd. and i have a addco front sway bar that im thinking about installing on my truck.

my question is how well will sway bars work for body role on a straight i beam axle?

any testimonies? anyone else ever used one?

A panhard bar will add bumpsteer with push-pull steering.

Good spring and shackle bushings (not 50 year old rubber), springs that aren't clapped out, decent shocks, and a sway bar are about as much as you can really do with the factory type suspension.

Track bars (panhard bars) do not affect bump steer but are rather redundant with four spring suspension. the sway bar will help more.

An axle on parallel leaf springs travels more or less straight up and down without lateral movement. This is why so many vehicles with front parallel leaf springs have push-pull steering, as a in cross-steer setup (drag link perpendicular to frame rails), the drag link travels in a lateral arc. A panhard bar also travels laterally in an arc, ideally in matching that of a cross-steer drag link.

When a vehicle's suspension compresses or droops with a panhard bar, the axle moves to one side or the other, while with push-pull steering the steering wheel tries to point straight ahead. This creates a bind and means that something has to move, be it the steering wheel or the tires as the panhard will move the axle laterally. This is bumpsteer.

I built my own sway bar out of a Bronco II 4-wd front bar and it made worlds of difference, and Max made his own but used a slightly different technique. There should be pictures of both in "hints and tricks" I think or else in the "projects and builds" thread.
But yes, you go from a leaning wallowing pig to driving a go kart. You're going to love it, its awesome.

What Indy63 stated! The front bar alone makes worlds of difference; the rear (sway) bar also helps. It's still a relatively high center of gravity, heavily-sprung T-ruck, but the replacement of bushings will tighten up things to a major degree at both ends. If you feel it needed more, Delrin or similar bushings will really tighten up any remaining lateral movement. Other than the bushings, I'd take it one step at a time.
