Thanks guys. We took off all week for Christmas but we've been busy working on it- just haven't taken many pics. Y'all should know what primer looks like by now anyways. The cab and doors should be in paint by the end of next week. We may try to make our own floormat or find someone who can if we have to.

Looks great but shouldn't the dash be two tone also? Tan above the chrome trim and white below?

It's a custom cab with a dash pad, the white won't show.skidoorulz wrote:Looks great but shouldn't the dash be two tone also? Tan above the chrome trim and white below?

Hi I'm Justin.

I must say this is the best factory stock restore I have ever seen. I was wondering about the two tone paint breaks on the cab. Is that factory?

Thanks, as far as the paint lines go, we had a guy that sent us detailed pictures of his original paint truck so we could replicate the factory lines. He did say that different assembly plants sometimes used different break locations in the jambs, so the masking locations are not 100% set in stone. We didn't take the time to two-tone the dash since it will have a dash pad to cover the split anyways. Less time in the paint booth that way.64Ranger wrote:I must say this is the best factory stock restore I have ever seen. I was wondering about the two tone paint breaks on the cab. Is that factory?

Picked up the cab and doors this morning. The factory primer color underneath was red oxide with tan overspray around the edges, so we sprayed the bottom with PPG DPLF epoxy to match the original primer. We'll do the overspray pattern tomorrow using single stage.
With primer on it, you can see how much effort we spent smoothing the weld seams on the rust repairs.

Did you use base clear? Or is it single stage paint like the factory did back then.

It's base/clear. PPG DBC base and 2021 high solids clear.skidoorulz wrote:Did you use base clear? Or is it single stage paint like the factory did back then.

Stayed late tonight to spray the bottom of the cab with the factory style overspray pattern around the edges. We had single stage color matched for this since base/clear wouldn't have the same effect. I didn't have anything to go by, other than one post I found that said that the bottom of the firewall wasn't masked from the factory, just that the paint was solid until the last roll at the toe boards. Hopefully it's close to how the factory "painted" the bottom of the cab.
Also shot the column parts, hinges, and front cab mount covers.

Looks good! Good luck getting that column back together and not messing up the pretty paint! Plenty of masking while doing that will help a ton

Thanks Phil, yeah that'll be a challenge! Waiting on the steering shaft to come back from a fab/machine shop. They're welding up the area that the bearing rides on and turning it back down to proper size on a lathe.1965fordf100 wrote:Looks good!
