1965 ford f 100 4x4 grill question ???

Post by skidmark »

Did ford ever use a grill other then the 65 grill on a 65 ? I have a 65 f100 4x4 and it has a 66 grill and I have seen a few ads for 65s with 66 grills I know a lot of things happen to these old pickups over the years.

Grills were year specific, but often when replacing parts grills would be changed for one reason or another. To answer your question, the answer is no.

65 grille's are not repoped. so a lot of bent and damaged 65's were replaced with 66's

Year of first purchase and model year are not the same thing, dmvs will often print first year of purchase as model year, post your vin number and someone will decode it.
Maybe you have a 66 bought late year 65.

Ford stoped make the 65 grille and the replacement was the 66. I can also tell you that working in body shops from 67 until 99 that people came in with no insurance and we would go salvage, get any thing that would fit and get it back on road.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.

I believe I read somewhere that the 65 grill was not made after september 1965, and that the new 66 grill was used after the 65 stock was used up, so it is possible to have a 65 model year with a 66 grill.

The F350 translates to a manufacturing date of July 1965, the F100 4x4, February 1965. With that manufacturing date, I would suspect the grille is a replacement. It's not unusual; I can tell you there are a bunch of old '65 Ma Bell trucks around with '66 grilles. If we could not find a used one around town, it got the Ford replacement.

Thanks Paul... I will be looking for a 65 grill now . I know my crew was a 350 because it had Dulles and a straight axel . I converted it to 4x4 3/4 running gear . But the vin would not give me more info .
