Long time with no update! I'm slowly but steadily disassembling the truck and getting it down to its frame. So far, no big surprises.

Last month, I took the cab off of the frame with my trusty frame hoist. Cab mounting bolts were essentially rusted beyond hope, so I had to break out the Sawzall and hack it free. Considering how totally deteriorated the core support frame holes were, I was expecting the worst with the front cab mounts, but, hey, what luck! Not bad at all.

You can see my cab hoisting strategy in the photo - cut a 4x4 to an appropriate length, drilled a hole in the center, flipped the engine hoist's boom arm over, and stuck the bolt into the hole. Worked like a charm. I tend to work by myself in the shop, so this was a big help.

In other news, I also snagged a mostly-rust-free '65 cab from Tom at Flashback F100s. It's in far better shape than my cab, and is sound in most of the rust-prone spots. Some rust in the driver's side floor, but nothing major. Used the hoist to get that one off of the back of the truck, too.

Over the weekend, I removed the 300, the transmission, and the driveshaft. Hope to finally get this truck down to bare frame this weekend.

Oh yeah - very fortunate to have that space to work in. It's a building on the family farm that I've spent the last year or so cleaning out and fixing up. It housed my grandfather's manufacturing business when I was a kid. Still have a long way to go, but it's nice to breathe a little life into that old building.

More slow progress - finally turned the corner with tear down and have the front clip disassembled after a lot of broken clips and swearing and rounded-off bolts. Looks like the core support is worse than I thought - bad rust along the bottom rail as well as in a few spots along the bracket that connects to the fenders. Might be best to go with the '64 core support conversion instead of trying to save this one.

300 is mounted to the engine stand - took off the valve cover, and (so far) the engine looks to be in decent shape. Need to figure out if I want to keep it or switch to a V8 of some sort.

Cut out the rotted parts of the frame where the core support mounts - ready for patching. Luckily, I have a couple of rust-free frame horns from Tom that are ready to go in once the MIG is up and running.

Finally found the VIN on the frame too, and luckily it matches the title.
