Found my vin, now questions

Post by jwh f-100 »

Well I found my vin under the cab on the frame. It was like christmas morning. This is what I learned and confirmed--

2wd f-100 (that was a given the first time I layed eyes on her :) )
It WAS a 292 2V ( that was a suprise I was guessing it was built with a 6)
It was built in KANSAS CITY (Is that a sign to get it to SS08? )
Built in March of '62 ( I knew the '62 but cool to know the "march")

It does not have a tag to get other codes so here is what I am guesstimating from looking at the decoder--
My paint is original and the only red in '62 ( and 61) was Monte Carlo Red
I am also guessing it is a 4000 GVW, model code, F-101

:?: Can any one help rule one or two of these body type codes out???? Going by the Custom Cab emblems and being 99% sure the doors have never been changed these are the choices. Also do not know what bed it had. 66B,81B,C81B

:?: Also can't be sure of what tranny it had, I just know it was a three on the tree. Possibly the medium duty was always used with a 292 long bed????

:?: Was there only one axle ratio used on a 292,3spd,long bed????

Seems to me this was Pa-only code not appliciable to the other 49

66 is a unibody must be something else. thought a styleside was a 99 but maybe that's just in Canada

Mine was a 292 3-on-the-tree light duty. Fairly common

No.

Thanks for the input!!!!I have to admit I'm am unclear what you mean with the PA thing. My truck is and always was red and according to the plate identification chart there was only one red in '62, Monte Carlo Red. Also I am just guessing that the model code is F-101/4000 GVW as my truck does not have a identification plate on the door or in the glove box.

No.

Was there one that was common??

3.89 was fairly common. but you could order anything, almost.
model 81 was perhaps, the slabside (fridge)box.

The Pa thing for a 101 (as opposed to 100) designation came off a trivia thing we had a long time ago. Guys said it was a designation for Pa, to do with the size of load or something. not sure really, just there in the back of my gray matter
