Greetings!

Ended up buying a 66 f100 short box, 3.03 top loader, with some sort of FE motor. Never had anything this old before, but having fun so far! Looks like the motor was rebuilt at some point, but having trouble getting a sense of when or what I have. What I know is it has a edelbrock intake, performer carb, and some unknown valve covers and air cleaner. Trying to figure out what I have motor wise, and when it might have been done (hoping there might be some clues in the pictures). Thoughts? Seems to run reasonably well.

Short term plans are to complete the tuneup (already had pertronix ignition, but replaced the wires, cap, rotor last weekend), plugs are going in this weekend. Taking it to a performance shop to have a 3 point belt installed soon (not something I have done before and want to make any mistakes with). Considering power brakes / dual chamber master too, and then some rust touch up (mostly just the seams need attention). Will probably POR 15 them.

I'm in central Iowa, so hoping to stop by the upcoming meet.

Welcome from SE Iowa. You live in the heart of slick land!

Your valve covers look like Cal Custom. Since you hate them, go ahead and give 'em to me! :thumright:

Air cleaner looks like a Cady/Olds or repro. Here's the current repro Speedway sells.

Could also be boat related since it's not exactly like the repros.

Only way to really know what an FE is is to measure stroke to see what crank you have. Can't measure bore without pulling a head or the pan.

You got a nice looking truck, I'm jealous.

Welcome aboard!

I saw that truck listed on CL and based on the pics, thought it looked pretty decent. Have fun with it and maybe i'll see you in August!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! Have been through the basic items, did plugs, rotor, cap, wires and a oil change. The cap and wires were pretty bad! Di-electric grease was obviously not used at all. https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hph ... 4399_n.jpg

Seems to be running pretty well now! Dropped it off at karls performance to have the 3 point shoulder belt mounts put in. Can't wait to get it back.
