New turn signal switch issue

Post by HillBillyF100 »

Ok, so I purchased and installed a new turn signal switch in my 66.. The switch worked fine while parked. I drove it down the road, and no turn signals. I immediately saw the wires had gotten pinched by the clutch pedal and subsequently blew the fuse. I run to the parts store and put in a new fuse, but not before taping the exposed wire that was pinched. Now, I have no turn signals and the fuse is good, and not blowing. Any thoughts?

You may have blown the flasher unit if the wires shorted out.

I bought the unit from Dennis Carpenters, not sure if that's the Taiwan kind or not..
And where are the flasher relays on these old trucks??

Attached to the steering column, under the dash, on a spring clip.
Most were a about an inch long, and round, shaped like a hat.
Heavy duty flashers were about twice as long as round, I have found some that were square or rectangular as well

Not sure if they have the same flasher, but the hazards work.. :-/
Hoping they are indeed separate flashers, as the hazard switch is on the dash, and not on the column.

They use seperate flashing units. Somtimes they fall out of a loose clip and they are hard to see behind all the wires, its also possible it had a wire come loose.
