65 4x4 with styleside bed

Post by ICEMAN6166 »

f250 should have the fridge bed but this one is styleside and you can see the wheelwells are centered in the bedside which is correct for the 120" wb.
is it factory or fabricated :?:

Since it has been painted...
I would vote fabricated

It does have factory 4x4 characteristics based on the four spoke steering wheel and the lower grille valance is correct for 4x4s and F350s. I'd be curious to see if it has the other tell tale 4x4 things like 61-64 style steps, battery in the floor and most importantly the F26 vin# stamped on the frame. From the photos, it looks like the wheelbase is longer than 120 inches, but who knows. Most likely it will be a truck with both 4x4 and 4x2 parts. Looks nice and is priced right.

Has wrong emblem on right fender, none on left. My vote would be a composit truck

Good eye on the emblem, but it is in fact correct for 65-66 F250 4x4s, 65-66 F350s and 1965 F100 4x4s and is in the correct location. His middle photo also seems to show the battery box under the floor. Looks to me to be a factory 4x4 with the regular 64-66 long bed somehow fabricated to look right.

How difficult would it have been to make a 65 F250 2wd into a 4wd?

Easier than modifying the bed or frame, IMO; assuming you have access to the components.

conversion of twin i beam 2wd to 4x4 is not without a lot of work.
f350s are the easiest as they have the same frame (just a longer wb) steering box and the correct cab.all you need is a front axle t case and the t case crossmember and driveshafts . bear in mind regearing of the rear end or a swap is needed as there are not many 4.88 and 5.13 front ends although dodge had a 4.88 dana front the pig is on the wrong side so a dodge t case (dana)is also needed.

the 61-64 2wd are easier coversions due to the straight axle front end.

Ah ok I was just curious. I got a dana 44 and 60 from a 72 F250 and the idea had crossed my mind.

I have a 65 4x4 that I replaced the frig bed with a styleside. Relocated the rear axle and had a drive line "stretched" a bit. Not a difficult project just need to measure a bunch before re-welding shocks. Im going to sell it before I get it on the road so I cant comment on the ride quality.

That would be my guess on this one also. Wonder if the seller read the comments here, since he has now posted pics of the inner step and battery cover.
