Trying to keep the stock steering wheel

I am trying to keep the stock steering wheel in my truck but I don't like the look of a 67-72 steering column. I found the ididit column but at nearly 600 bucks, I was wondering if anyone had any good alternatives. I'd consider the stock column but a tilt column would be nice for the room and trying to convert the bottom of the column to a dd shaft might be difficult as I am running a mustang rack and pinion. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I ran into the same deal a couple of years ago, I put a '78 tilt column in while doing the power steering change over. The wiring problem (way too Many) blew my skirt up, I didn't like the way the exposed bell open end of the column looked, and I was determined to keep the old 17" sprint car steering wheel that had been on old Shoe String for about 25 years already. My solution was to cut the '66 auto column down. The rag joint flange came off the end of the shaft, a couple of inches or so came off the shaft, the shaft was welded back to the flange. The outer tube was cut below the neutral saftey switch opening, the same extra length taken out, re-welded, ground flush. I've fought the old plate that secures the re-assembled column to the firewall for a while and never been satisfied. Just this last issue of Street Rodder I noticed a simple bracket sold through one of the vendors that will solve that, I'll let you know how that works out for me.

The 67-72 column is almost identical to the 65-66 column.
