Removing starter
Hey been reading up on removing my starter and seems to be a big PITA. I have a 390 but stock exhaust, no headers. Ive heard of using a bunch of extensions and knuckls to get it out (top bolt only) but you dont have to take the exhuast off. Has anyone had that luck here?

Re: Removing starter
You do not need to remove the stock manifolds, and R&Ring the starter isn't bad at all with them. You will need a longer extension for the upper bolt, but it is easy to get to.
The real problems you have been reading about are with starters behind headers.
As for reinstalling, the metal plate between the block and bell housing guides the starter back into position quite nicely, making it easy to get the lower bolt in first, followed by the upper one.
EDIT - I am assuming your Slick is a '65 or later. If yours is a '64 or earlier, it might be different.
