Guess what I found

Post by Uncle Skip »

Guess what I found at the swap meet this weekend????
I finally scored a MAX DEAL :D
No more almost starting when the motor is hot.
Its an FE Mini-starter.
Brand new in the box from Summitt Racing.
Shipping and all the original cost was over $225.00.
Invoice was in the box too.
Cost me $165.00.
BroncoTom made fun of me and the moths that flew out of my cash stash when I opened it up to pay the man, but I can take it.
I'm not cheap, I'm just s frugal Scotsman

The mini starter is in and the copper gaskets have cured my exhaust leaks. It was hot and sweaty this afternoon and the air was blue with my expressive and colorful comments.
The lady next door stopped by to chat (crusty old gal about 75 with a cigarette in one hand and a gin and tonic in the other). She said she was a WAF transfer pilot in WWII and hadn't heard such creative profanity since 1942.
I'm honored, I think.
Anyway, its back together and better than ever. Now, if I can just get some help with the headliner project........

Not the cap, but I did have a Slick tee shirt on. Why didn't you stop us and say hi.
Us folks in south Houston are user friendly.
Drop me a line and let me put you on the mailing list. We're going to have a get together this fall if we can agree on a common date.

mini starter

Post by Truckrat »

feedback.gif Skip, you lucky devil, what a score! I didn't know your old one was giving you fits. It sucks when it won't start from heatsoak and low torque. How much squeeze does that FE have in it? Bet that mini gets r done for ya. You guys got any new plans you are kicking around for a get together yet?

It didn't go as smooth as I had planned because it was 4:00 in the afternoon, and I don't do adult beverages or Zen before 6 pm.
I'd chalk that up to poor planning on my part.
Nadine has 10.5:1 TRW forged units with the closed chamber C8-AEH heads, so I have some serious squeeze.
Put a little heat on things and she gets cranky... or she won't crank.... whatever.
Anyway, a new FE starter is in the $85.00 range so I think I got a real bargain.
Still, I sure hated to part with that C-note but a man has to do want a man has to do. Right? :D
It was a bitch with those big old cast iron headers taking up all that space to make things right though.
Or else I'm just getting old and lazy......
Huh? What? Huh?

Way to go Skip. Already had to replace one starter on my 66 with the 390. At least they replaced it for free. Mainly, because I told them I wanted a good one, as I didn't want to hassle with the headers to replace it when I bought the first one. If it goes again, I may go with a ministarter, but I have several good starters, and although not a Scot, it goes against the grain to spend money for something I plenty of.

Why would anyone want to replace a perfectly good PE starter with a PMGR POS? PMGR is what my Explorer has and it's a piece of crap. Takes 3 times longer to crank and is weak as hell. My dad's 2 '79 and two '78 trucks use the Positive engagement starters and they work extremely well. Dad just taps the key to start and his trucks fire right up. Those engines are almost twice as big as the V6 in my Explorer.

If I could find one that'd fit. I'd put an inertia starter on the 351C for my Uni. The Intertia starter I have for my 223 worked PERFECT when I pulled the engine, didn't cost anything to rebuild the motor either.

1998 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor(work beater)
1961 F100 Uni (my baby)
