Re: Dan's 1963 F100 split uni ( as of 03 JUN 15)
I welded in a piece of angle steel to replace the front of the torque box. I am leaving it open so that it is the opposite of a torque box, that is that it is able to flex with the truck. It will also let the crap out the bottom. The old torque box was full of rust and dirt before I cut it open.

Re: Dan's 1963 F100 split uni ( as of 07 JUN 15) test fit 2
Test fit 2. I reversed the rubber cab mounts and added a 1/4 inch shim on the front of the bed.
This is a frontal shot to show how the body lines work from the front. I really like this one.
I hope to get the doors on soon, even if it is just to eyeball them and see where this is going.

Dan it looks great.
What thickness rubber are you using in the rear bed mounts? I can not remember if I took rubber out of those at the end of my frame but it looks like it needs them?

Thanks Gary and John. I don't have any rubber under the bed right now, but I remember there being rubber pads under the torque box when I pulled this one. I will put some in and adjust until it looks right.

Re: Dan's 1963 F100 split uni ( as of 07 JUN 15) test fit 2
theres rubber on top and botton of the frame on all the bolts
looking good Dan , it appears you are farther along than i am.
lost time due to the death of my air compressor, many rainy days and other things i have to do before getting back too it.
like today, nice sunny day but instead of working on the bed i have to ride around on the lawnmower, mostly done with that maybe another hour or so.
hope the rain dont come back when im done

Dan it looks like the bed is lining up good. What a change the Uni bed
makes to the look of your truck. Like night and day compared to the fridge box.
Will the Uni doors off the donor truck be good enough to use on there? All the
interior pieces should bolt right up, but I am thinking you might want to invest
in some new parts for the window frames and runner at the front. Are the ones
on your 63 decent or do they need redone too? TR

Starting to come together, Dan! Looks great. I am kind of liking the standard doors with the uni box for some reason. Most people won't know what they are looking at and those that do will really question what they are seeing. The standard doors my help confuse them even more. I think either way could look great.
Keep up the good work.

I have been told that last part before. The truck is missing a lug nut too.LM14 wrote:Starting to come together, Dan! Looks great. I am going to use the uni doors, but these will stay for a while because the uni doors are pretty much shells at this point. The standard doors look better than I though. They actually sold them like that in Argentina. If you watch the video of the 61 model ad the second truck at the end that pulls up to the house has standard doors and a uni bed.

going to keep my standard doors as well
i have calculated the bed needs 1\2 " additional lift besides the rubbers
i may get a 1\2 x 2" bar of cold rolled and cut and drill them for spacers
i can glue the rubbers onto the spacers if needed

Re: Dan's 1963 F100 split uni ( as of 07 JUN 15) test fit 2
I stuck a uni door on so that I could start to line everything up. I need to bolt everything down and run a string again to see how it is this time on both sides.

Not touching, but it is only about 3/8 of an inch near the top edges. I would like to mess with it some more, but the 100 plus weather makes it no fun.

Dan ol Rhino is looking more like a Uni every time I see it.
Glad you were able to use a lot of stuff off that old truck.
By the way, what kind of shape is the frame on the old Uni in?

I'll tell ya, I was pretty sceptical until you put that uni door on. Actually looks really good. You'll have a pretty cool truck there when you're done!

Thanks for the positive comments. The old frame is in good shape.
The more stuff I do, the more stuff I find that needs to be done. I am glad that most of it is elbow grease related and not big dollar.

I like the lines of the uni door as well. Looks nice and clean.
Re: Dan's 1963 F100 split uni ( as of 21 JUN 15) uni door te
Dan, seeing all those primer patches all over that truck and the patina
here and there makes me want to grab my paint gun and spray a coat of
satin black paint on it. Just schemin' on it, nothing serious. Southern Polyurethanes
makes a great epoxy primer in 3 colors. Black, Grey, and White. Thinking a white primer
might look cool on there. Black would be way too hot where you live. Would burn
you if you touched it in that sun. Just the old painter in me talkin'. TR
