Re: F1000 superduty
That's a truck. I know a man who got 4 and 6 mpg from two different 534 trucks with small Holleys. Curious what you get.

Re: F1000 superduty
VERY Nice truck,, if it did not suck up so much gas make a nice car hauler,,, OH Yes when these trucks where new anywhere from 3-5 mpg, that's WHY 2 tanks and had to raise the body up to get to the other tank,, oh yes my parents did own a Sunoco Gas station where gas was from .10 to .18 a gallon and diesel was .11 a gallon and that was my job fueling/checking for flats/overall inspection and parking at 10 years old summer time and after school for many years and my pay ? 25.00 a week which back in the 60's was a lot for a kid

Re: F1000 superduty
Cab is real solid... Been repainted long time ago
It was an 'over the road' truck for a grocery store chain
frame was lengthened (by a business that specializes in that work)
And bed & hoist added (again, done well)
The guy selling it was a real honest man
Said his dad had not got gasket right on oil filter
And they never caught it....
Had to do a rebuild years ago
Soon after he quit farming
Truck has been a rock & trash hauler last 10 years
Hardly any run time
Back tires look real good
Fronts are badly weather checked
I think it will make me a good rig for hauling grain

Re: F1000 superduty
i knew a guy, up in Alaska who was a house mover
he had a 534 plus a detroit locker in the rear end and a 40K winch
4 mpg but he did not care as it was the torque he needed,
lots of the places he took houses to were well off pavement
dont think he ever got stuck, he could work the gears and winch quite well getting the house to the spot it needed to be
its worth saying you are not going to get better mpg with any of the FT engines in a big truck or bus so you might as well go to the 534 and get that extra hp and torque
my bus with the 330 FT got 6 mpg
loaded or empty
was not made for mileage but to haul heavy loads

Re: F1000 superduty
4-6 isn't so bad considering the size. Work gives me a 13 Chevy 3500 with the 6.0l and it doesn't get more than 10mpg
Re: F1000 superduty
Fuel mileage not a big concern for me
About a 20 mile round trip to the grain elevator
Being able to maintain my "fleet" of vintage equipment more important
50 year old trucks ,40 year old combines, 30+ year old tractors
And million year old dirt !

Re: F1000 superduty
I'm just jealous you guys get all the cool trucks to choose from!
I know it's come up before, but is the scoop on the bonnet/hood factory? Looks pretty neat.

Re: F1000 superduty
I believe those steel hood scoop were available from '57-'87 on many F, L, T and N series Ford trucks.Leeroy wrote: I know it's come up before, but is the scoop on the bonnet/hood factory? Looks pretty neat.
They are difficult to locate inexpensively in decent shape with the chrome scoop grill, as well as the ducting that fastened below it.

I like your thinkin ICE. It's just hard to answer those questions as to why I drive a grain truck to work when I fly aero planes for a living!Leeroy

Re: F1000 superduty
The hood scoops were made by Ford for Pontiac super duty factory race cars. There is a Ford part # on them. I have 2 of them 1 is for sale.

Drove the big dog home yesterday
110 miles in 95* heat with a 20 mph side wind
Temp gauge ran cool & oil psi stayed good
Truck rides surprisingly well.... No rattles
2500 rpm = 45 mph
That's all the faster I drove, as the front tires
Are badly weather checked
Looking forward to hauling some grain with it
