1965 Ford F250 4X4
I just picked up this F250 4X4 off of Craigslist. I have owned many 64-66 Ford's over the years but I have always wanted a factory 4X4. It's missing plenty of parts and is just a roller at the moment. I' sure I will have plenty of questions.

Thanks Bruce, I think so. The good thing is that the truck has been in SoCal it's entire life so there is no rot to contend with. The VIN tag is missing from the drivers side door so I can't visually figure out the wheelbase (I'll put a tape on it later), does the truck look short to you?

Thanks Iceman, it looked a little short to me for some reason.
Are my eyes deceiving me or are the inner fender wells on this truck like a 1961 through 1964?
I've had a few 65 F100's and the inner fender are much different than what's on this 65.

yes the inner fenders are like the 61-64 except the passenger side does not have the flat spot for the battery
the core support is the 61-64 2wd style also
the correct beds are either flareside or wrongbed (57-60 style)

The reason I ask about the inner fender wells is that someone has "hacked" a huge hole in both sides, it looks like they did it with an ax, of all things.
I'll have to see if I can repair the passenger side since it's 4x4 only.
I wanted to put a F100 style bed on in lui of the "wrong" bed, but I guess that is out as well.
It looks like I'm about 8 inches too short in the wheelbase.
I'll get her going and painted then put a nice flat bed on it.
I'm still happy as hell I finally have a genuine 65 4X4!!!!!!!!!!!

I am working on a 62 4WD. It is a beast to drive. I like the tall ride height and ample cab room for my 6'-4" frame. I acquired a wrongbed for it and I may need to figure out power steering for it. It would make steering much easier as I am not getting any younger.. I put a 300-I6 into mine with an electronic ignition set up. I toyed with the Clifford 6=8 intake but decided against it because this is not a high performance and get up and go rig - but rather a woods road rut pounder for dirt, dogs, and manure.
Mine had some rust issues - the radiator support needs replacement and I am hoping an aftermarket will fit, both fenders and inner fenders are rusted out too. I have the cab floors, rocker panels and steps, cab roof, front of the hood and cab corners welded up with new patch panels. Now I need to strip it.
Post some pictures of the interior. These are rugged trucks - a good score for you! -tom

I see you have the rather desirable large opening fenders, what looks to be a good front valance/rock guard whatever ya call it, and good cab mounts. I wonder what went on with the "customized" inner fenders?
personnaly I like the look of the stepside/flareside beds. Nice project and good to see another 4x4 being saved.

the correct inner fender is also on f350s and larger trucks, its not 4x4 only
did someone move the battery from its factory location under the passenger floor, ther should be a removable cover there

Looks like a custom fenderwell header access hole. Finding a correct 4x4 is difficult. I see a lot of slicks on later 4x4 chassis swaps.

Thanks for the replies, I've been at work the last few days so I could not reply.
I climbed over my truck pretty good and I've come to this conclusion: The cab has been swapped for a F100 cab of similar vintage, there is no battery access door in the passenger side floorboard and the fender wells/battery tray are most likely from that same truck the cab came from.
The frame and underpinnings are in fantastic shape, albiet, greasy and nasty......which I expect.
The truck had a flatbed on it so there are a few pieces added at the rear of the frame to support it, easy to cut off with a scarfing tip on my torch and grind it smooth.
Did this truck come with a NP435 or a Borg-Warner T18 gearbox?
There is a manual gearbox in the truck I'm just not familiar with it.
The Dana 24 divorced transfer case is present and moves easily through it's motions.
The axles look stock, can anyone tell me what axles came in the truck?
The VIN on the frame is F26DR7116XX so it is a genuine F250 4X4 made in San Jose with a 352CI engine correct?
