Door Seals (Soaking before installing)

Post by Gritsngumbo »

I did try a search, but didn't find what I needed. I read recently how you're supposed to soak your new door seals (I bought them from Dennis Carpenter) in soapy water (never understand the WHY of soaking, but want the best fit possible) Do you let them dry with soap on them or rinse them off and let them dry?
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Don't make no sense to me. Soaking a rubber door seal, which is water-proof, should serve no purpose.

Grits..... the reason they're telling you that is because you need to wash off the rubber mold release agent. Scrub your rubber in hot soapy water, rinse, and let it dry a couple of days.
If you need more info on how to install the rubber, be sure to let me know.
AND, since you're older than me by one year, I'll sign myself...............

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

GRITS...I just put on the drives side rubber on my 65 that I got from DC. They fit great and I didnt need to soak them first. The hardest part was keeping the cement from touching the wrong places when I was installing. The fit was perfect. Clean off the old cement, a thin coat on the door and the seal, let dry until tacky and then walk it around the door, shut the door and come back in an hour. I did lay it out on the door first so I could make sure it was on the right direction. Good luck

Thanks guys! I'm hoping my body shop guy (who will be painting the interior for me) will have pity on me an install it for me (I'm sure he has more experience on this kind of thing than I do.). He just restored my father-in-law's 66 Bronco which had spent many hours on the NE Louisiana hunting trails. I just wanted to take advantage of the Slick 60's Knowledge Bank.
