it is 19 inches long, I was going to have clearance problems with the exhaust so this worked best for me. my universal is in the cab before it goes thru the firewall. I had to fab brackets to mount it. the stock column goes all the way thru to the frame mounted steering gear-=GS=- wrote:What are the details on the IDIDIT steering column you used? How long is it vs. the stock one? Was it difficult to install, I'm about to do this with my truck as it gets the Mustang 2 cross member.

Re: 64 going down
How did you fab the steering column mounts?I am going to have the same issue with my truck.
Every day above ground is a good one
Re: 64 going down
made the brackets and used an ididit floor mount bracket, then modified the stock column mount62bigwindow wrote:How did you fab the steering column mounts?I am going to have the same issue with my truck.
a piece or 4 inch flat bar and some angle iron. it is just tack welded now I will finish welding when I pull the brake pedal housing out to modify the pedal, I hate overhead welding. I will also use carriage bolts for a finished look.

Re: 64 going down
wow, did not realize how rough those tack welds looked. I will also remove all the set screws and drill and thru bolt the universal. I have had those back out before.

Re: 64 going down
That's what I love about the IRS - lay it on the ground but you still have a "real" bed! Nice work.
Re: 64 going down
todays update, the front air suspension is in, the truck will lay the frame on the ground but also will have 9 inches of clearance at the rockers when in the full up position.

Re: 64 going down
here is todays update, got the shock mounts made and the accuair height sensors installed then installed the front sheetmetal. I cut the radiator support from the donor Mark VIII (nice to have a donor for parts) and will use it for the radiator and condenser mounting, this will work out good. I will have factory radiator and a/c condenser with factory cooling fan. the trans cooling lines will mount without modification also. I did not realize how low the radiator is mounted in the Mark VIII, I had to remove the front crossmember but with the mustang II crossmember welded in and the frame boxed it should be fine. I will make a filler panel above the radiator.
accuair
crossmember removed
donor section of radiator core support
radiator and fan mocked up, it will use all the stock hoses

Re: 64 going down
Looking great! Do you have more pics of how you did the structure for the bed floor and how it attaches to the truck frame?
Phil
Re: 64 going down
I will look for some, It is one inch tubing welded to the original bed floor and sides, the section in the rear for the fuel tank is the only part attached to the frame1965fordf100 wrote:Looking great!
