WANTED for 62 UNI

Post by 62 UNI »

In search of pedal set for brake & clutch set up......

During the winter I plan on updating the Uni with a World Class T-5 5 speed trans. I'm having a bellhousing modified as I write.

If anyone has a set thats not trashed or wore out I'd be interested in purchasing them.

PM me with info....

The pedal sets will work out of any Slick from 61-64.

Actually, I will have some in about a week or two but shipping would be expensive.
Surely someone in Georgia has some extras.
If you can't find a set let me know.

I got a set too but shipping would likely be worse from Omaha. I'll check it if you like though, just PM an addy.

Paul,
Installed a T5 in my 62 Uni about three years ago, and feel it was, after the disk brake & dual MC, about the best thing I have done to it. I have the 223 and used the adapter setup that John Mummert sells to do mine. Was pretty much a bolt-up. Had to massage the floorboard slightly to get clearance(the T5 is taller from the mainshaft centerline to the top than the old tranny). The driveshaft was replaced with a shorter one. The shift lever comes up just in front of the seat bottom, so I made a short(about 3 inch) offset to go between the upper and lower shifter stick. I also made my own upper shifter stick out of 4130 aircraft tubing(very lightweight and strong(I feel that this reduces the pressure on the shift forks, since the forks are kink of weak anyway). Seems to be a lot better gearing for what I use the pickup for, and a whole lot less noise cause the engine is not screaming any more.
Anything else, please ask.

Thanks for the input Fred.

I'm having a bellhousing modified as we speak to go from the 352 to T5........should have soon.

I'll ask that you send some pix to my email address: regan1008@bellsouth.net of the process (if you got them).

As much as I enjoy the auto in the truck now.......I'm & have always been a clutch guy.....

I can not wait for the front end upgrade & the stick conversion.

Fred: Did you replace the 3 speed of the 4 speed? I have the Mustange 5 speed on my wanted to do list and wondering how much work I would need to do on the transmission hump. I have the 4 speed and am thinking that the hump is higher already than the 3 speed. Do you have a pic of your shifter mod? Thanks.

I am computer challenged(took me 3 years to figure out how to post), and I don't have any pic of it. I don't own a new type camera(wouldn't know how to use it or put up pics anyway). Mine was a 3 spd, so the hump if prior was a 4 spd will be plenty tall enough.

I'd be vary wary of a standard or even a world class T-5 behind a 352- especially if you like getting on it. There is a very decent chance that it wouldn't hold up. I'm pushing my standard t-5 and it's behind a y-block.

I've owned & beat the bag out of enough T5 transmisioned vehicles to safely say it'll last long enough untill I get another as a spare.

I'd love a TKO but IMO they are cost prohibited (for me anyway). Looked for a older DN5 but.....again way to much coin for what you get. I run a Liberty preped Super T10 in my 66 Chev II C-dan (I know no basing) but want the 5th gear (as the trucks running high 3's or low 4 gearing).

Truck is weekly driver not a drag racer - although I do like to hit it once in a while. I'll just wait to see how it holds up.
