Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
Was cleaning out my dad's garage and came upon this intake. Can anyone help identify it? First thought was sb ford but the intake ports are round -- don't know of any sb ford heads with round intake ports.

Re: Intake manifold ID
That pic is HUGE, I can only see ~ 10 % of manifold at a time, try reducing pic size, then it might be possible to actually ID it.........

Mojave: Going by the thermostat housing, it is SBF, it kind of looks like an EFI lower manifold that someone has topped off with a plate cut, drilled, and tapped to mount a carb on. But the firing order on the corner, which you showed in one of your pics is the old 260/289/302 firing order, not the later firing order used on 302HO/5.0L??
Are there no other numbers cast or stamped into it?

Re: Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
I agree that it has the early sbf firing order, but I do not think it is an efi lower as there do not appear to be an injector bungs on it.
The round ports "might" indicate it was used with Boss 302 type of heads (Cleveland heads used on small blocks in '69 and '70).
I seem to recall some "race specific" manifolds of this type that were tried back in the day but were not too successful.
Again as mentioned above, if there are any other markings or cast or stampings, they might help in identifying this unit.

I did not find any other casting numbers. I noticed the bolt holes on top line up with a Holley 4V flange, apparently two 4Vs. The metal adapter for single 4V looks to be homemade. Those circular intake ports are what threw me off. Think it has any collector value?

Re: Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
Mojave: Collector value depends on what it is, impossible to value something that hasn't been positively ID'd.
But MY OL 66 may be on to something with the Boss 302, and the first thing I thought of after reading his post was CROSS BOSS. This was an intake & carb sold through Ford Performance, which utilized a Motorcraft inline four barrel carb.....but looking at google images, I'm not sure??

Re: Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
Its not a crossboss! What it looks like is a 2x4 thats had the center removed, for what ever reason... still not to sure on the round ports...
Edit: looking pretty good for 302 tunnel port heads. I'm not to well versed with the small block Fords, FE's are my choice
It appears from what I can see of the photo that the center has had two pcs. welded in...

This looks like it, note the fireing order numbers.

Robert, you're spot-on that welds have been put in, bridging the gap between two carbs. Keen eye sir. There is a plate pictured for use of a single carb. I don't know what it would have worked on other than a tunnel port... Maybe I should contact a Boss 302 list.robertrpeak wrote:Its not a crossboss! Yes, I would contact some of the forums that deal with tunnel ports, racing of said engine etc. Could be that it was modified by some race team, might have an interesting history, good luck..

Looks like the same intake to me. Have applied to post on boss302.com and am awaiting approval. Thanks all for the help!

Re: Intake manifold ID, 2nd try -- smaller pics
Guys over at Boss302.com confirmed it's a factory tunnel port intake (yay!) but it's practically worthless because of the DIY hack job (boo!)
Oh well, fun trying.
