1992-1996 ford bucket seats in a slick?
Ive thought about this for a while... my main concern was not whether it would fit...brackets shiuld take care of that but how well it fits in the 64..steering wheel wise and all, but i do want to move my steering column up like te 65 65, using a 61-64 column mount, by cutting it down and moving it as close to the bottom of the dash as possible..anyone done that? Anyone got pics of these seats in a 61-64, or experience with at least setting them in? My plan was to have some reopolstered in a more slick style material with the v8 hood embelm or something..

I put buckets in my '64 and I had to adjust and readjust....and adjust them some more. I am 5'-6" and I'm still looking for more room (and I'm not fat either - 155 lbs.) I want to do the same with my column. But I understand that the shaft in the column runs straight into the steering box and if you raise or lower the column in the cab, you would either put it in a bind or put undue stress on the column bearings. I have thought about cutting the column tube in the engine bay area and also the shaft, then angle the column up and use a double-D joint. This would be the 'poor mans' version without having to buy a tilt column. I have been pricing tilt columns and they are expensive. Btw...I love the bucket seats...it was just an issue of getting the height just right.

Right, ive thought about trying to look for some ford van tilt columns that were the exact sane size as the 61-76 columns, im not a fan of the aftermarket columns ive seen...look like chevy to ne and dont look right...but dad and i had a thought about mopar columns dare we say it...he thought that if he remembered right some were pretty close to te ford columns, but i havnt decided on wheather to use the toyota gear box, or rebuild my power assist control valve or fab up the 65 and later gearbox either way it will get a rag joint and some sort I f break away system...but ive been thinking about swaping the 65 and up floor pan in later...and leaving the main stuff a 64 and down style..for room but i dont know my floors are good now but far from finished..but they will last a long time now the way they are..uts hard to do all that when your dailying your truck to high school lol..without good planing hahaSteveCanup wrote:I put buckets in my '64 and I had to adjust and readjust....and adjust them some more. I've heard of the " Econoline tilt column conversion" for years, and have yet to see one which appears a likely candidate! If you find any specifics, I'd be interested. As to using the later slick floor pans; it's not an easy task, and still offers no help with the fore/aft steering box action. I shy away from modifying a column; a replacement tilt column ofers the only solution, IMO, since I readily admit to my larger girth and height. No matter what I have tried, non-tilts end up in odd positions in my experience.

I've done the Double D joint on my 61.
I did it, so I could do a body lift. I needed some upward room for an Allison trans.
If you look closely you can see the joint, and a tie rod boot from a semi as a dust seal on the box.
I used a 68 column tube and lower bearing. The top is all original 61...

i like my mustang style buckets. been in my truck 16 years, could use new skins but to me are very comfortable

I put Bronco seats in my 65 (same really as mustang) and a CHEVY (ya I know) tilt column from a van. Both worked good. I did cut down the tilt. I am 6' and 320 on a good day and this is my daily driver cuz I love it.

ya ive thought about just doing some of those and do it up in a ranger kinda style...but with that being said to e whats nice about the 92-96 bucket seats is that theyre a very nice package: lumbar, console doubles as a bench seat ,and when i put my fuel tank on the frame, and get a fuel door on the quarter panel, i think it will open up alot on interior mods, like the door pressure release vents the newer trucks have and then add on storage back there...one mod at a time though..ras4434 wrote:I put Bronco seats in my 65 (same really as mustang) and a CHEVY (ya I know) tilt column from a van. You are going to have to add joints into your system. You could just shorten the steering column tube, cut the shaft, and add a d-joint that would allow you to move your current column closer to the dash. The other thing you could find is a dent side tilt column.

Nope, no tilt. Just one double D u joint at the steering box.
It's still a straight solid column. Looks stock inside.
But, It could use any column now, that the shaft isn't a solid part of the steering box.
It is just a first step toward using any column I would want in the future and gave me the flexibility to lift the cab without putting the column on a bind.

I really want to use the 50/50 split bench seat from the 85 crown vic LTD donor car. they are in mint condition, and probably some of the most comfortable seats I have sat/driven in. I have searched the internet, but haven't found any one that has done it yet, so if I can make it work I'll try to share how they work out.
