Oh yeah, did 85 uphill today in 4th @ 4K rpms.

Worthless old engines ahhhh

i love my y in my 4x4. i usually ride along at 70, 3000 rpm. the truck however likes the 73-77 mph range ,seems to settle right into that spot and effortlessly move down the road.
in 1st gear in 2wd i can zing nice roostertails of the gravel road surface a good distance. in 4x4 i can drive quite nicely thru deep snow and if needed "climb the face of a cow"

Doc Pepper wrote:Everybody knows that a little tiny 240, built right can hit over 10,000 rpm. And with a 5.10 rear end, would kill any of those gas guzzling, maintenance intensive, money pits you call engines.
And it would still get better mileage than your fuel funnels.

Doc

Gawd, the more you open your mouth (message board wise that is) the more you prove what an idiot you are. Please stop now, because it is evident you don't know what you are talking about.

It is PROVEN that high revving engines are more stressed than low rpm engines. More stress = shorter lifespan, get it? If we were to use your theories in action we could just use weed whacker engines to power ocean liners. Just spin them up to a million RPM and gear reduce them, right?

Take some time and learn about fuel delivery and air flow demands related to engine size VS displacement. An understanding of voumetric efficiency would get you much farther in this argument

before anyone gets too upset at doc, you do realize that 90% of what he says, (especially in the off subject forum when he starts new threads) is tongue in cheek right? I'm not saying he doesnt love his 240 and would rather have it than a 390, but I dont believe he's typing this up without a grin.

I for one love havin him around, he makes me laugh and makes me think a little out of the norm. In fact I'd be downright sad and ticked off if he stopped posting these threads :)

keep 'er up Doc :D

You can clearly see even with a head that isnt available you aren't going to get the RPM out of that engine and it doesnt' make all that much horse power for what it is. I could screw with the data a bit more but the reality is 10K isn't going to happen on a normaly aspirated engine untill you really start getting into the engine. Multiple valve per cylinder and a shorter stroke may get better VE% but then it's not a stock six anymore is it.

Sad reality is this engine would be miserable to deal with on a daily basis and really doesn't make much more HP or torque than a stocker 427 FE and based on the CFM demands it wouldn't be more efficient, not by a long shot.

Here is a page of calculators you can try at home to estimate your horsepower, displacment and such.

Engines are pretty simple when you break it down in mathmatics. It is just an air pump afterall.

Way to serious

Doc only puts this stuff here to start us yaking... and it works

I have great fun poking at what he says and I'm sure he does hearing what we say

If we took him seriously we'd have to declare war

Are we ready for another Canadian, US war?

It's all just in fun and not intended to have a shred of reality in it, just laughs.

I drive about 6 miles of interstate hwy to work. About 2 or 3 times a week I get behind this old man who drives 55MPH and the posted speed is 70MPH.

That's you ain't it Doc.

I think he dropped a 390 on his head. I still like reading his tounge in cheek stuff. I am sure he is just fishing for some spirited conversation,...keeping the forum colorful.

So don't let those inflicted with 'aging testosterone disease' try to tell you that you need a 390. You don't. And of course a 460 is just insane.

Thanks guys. Especially dave. I was worried ol' doc was going to get run off.

And for the record I'd put a shiny nickel on Doc not being serious about 10,000 RPM. I think he was about as serious as I am when I say "I'd give a million dollars to be left alone for a day!!"

We love ya Doc :)

I dunno. Guys, do we want another crack at our Northern neighbors? :) IIRC: those canucks have only fought 1 war - and they won, didn't they?

Anyone remember who it was they fought? Anyone? Class? Bueller?

your right, those engines will do, then agian, you can also drive a rice burning toyota, but i choose not to, thats why i choose to have a 514 stroker, and i drive a 4x4 superduty everyday, because I Choose. dont let someone make your decisions for you, if you want someone to tell you what you can drive, and do, then its time to move.. hope you like rice

If you won all those wars, why does everybody up there insist on speaking French?
The French have never won a war with anybody except Viet Nam.
